Description of Queenswood private boarding school

  • Location: Hatfield, United Kingdom
  • Established: in 1894
  • The age of the students: 9-18 years old
  • School type: Boarding school (with accommodation)
  • Type of study: separate (only for girls)
  • Total number of students: 400 people, of them foreign students - 30%, the hostel is home to more than 50%
  • Language of instruction: English.

Queenswood school is a prestigious women's boarding school and is located not far from London, on the grounds of the 120-acre estate of the same name. All students note the incredibly warm, friendly atmosphere on the campus, everyone knows each other in person and by name, is always ready to help with advice and deed. Administrative staff believes that parents should also be involved in the learning life, so they maintain constant  contact with them, gladly receive guests on campus, arrange Open House days and other joint events.

Since the Queenswood school was founded by Christian clergymen, religious traditions and postulates are still strong here. The territory has its own chapel, which regularly hosts services and masses, carefully observe moral and ethical principles, morality and spiritual purity, virtue and rich spirituality. Despite officially accepted Christianity, girls of any confession and religion can study at school - it is required only by respect for the origins and traditions of the official religion.

The main task here is not just a quality academic education, but the preparation of girls for successful and productive activities in the modern world. The students develop the skills of critical and analytical thinking, self-confidence and their abilities, the ability to take responsibility for their words and deeds, maintain a craving for knowledge and increase their own level of education. Education in Queenswood school is not only lessons and lectures, but also a large number of extra-curricular activities, creative and sports, social and educational work, cultural and spiritual development of each unique personality.

Academic results of schoolgirls are impressive due to this complex approach. In 2013, approximately 85% of the graduates reached the A-level A-B level, and almost a third of the girls earned the highest A * -A scores, in all disciplines. This helps to go on to the most prestigious and advanced universities, including Oxford, Cambridge and the London School of Economics, to apply for a place in the universities of London, Warwick, Bristol and Edinburgh.

What is important to consider when choosing a school, in addition to rankings and professionalism of teachers?

Location, student and extracurricular activities - clubs, communities. The type of education is joint or separate (only for boys or only for girls), of course. Religious affiliation (if or not, how clearly expressed), a unified policy, the presence of a curfew and a uniform.
