The four dormitories on campus are home to approximately 1,100 students at 27th Street and 1,100 students at Kaufman Hall at 31st Street.

  • Coed Hall (27th Street) offers traditional double / triple rooms, double suites, a limited number of four-bed suites.
  • Nagler Hall (27th Street) - A women-only apartment complex offering mostly traditional style double rooms (no air conditioning), a limited number of air conditioned double / single suites.
  • Alumni Hall (27th Street) - 4-bed apartments only.
  • Kaufman Hall (31st Street) - For current / returning students, summer housing for visiting interns.

Activities Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), SUNY

Participating in on-campus activities will be a valuable learning experience and a great way to meet people. FIT life outside the classroom is as exciting as learning.

The FIT Student Government Association was formed to protect student rights and has representation throughout the college. The student council, board of directors, and communications committee serve as the center of FIT student government and represent the interests of the student community. The governing departments of the Student Association control, finance from student fees for more than 60 clubs and organizations. The council is open to every student, meets once a month, and elections are held every spring.

The Institute's Student Volunteer Community Service (SVCS), an award of community service to higher education, offers interested students the opportunity to assist the fashion industry. Clubs, independent students, teachers, staff can use the available information about local organizations that are requesting volunteers.

FIT offers incubator space, access to educational programs for FIT graduates who pursue entrepreneurial activities in creative industries, demonstrate a focus on innovation.

Facilities and equipment at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), SUNY

The college moved to a nine-story building on Seventh Avenue in the heart of the sewing district in 1959. By 1975, six more buildings were added to the campus, including two dormitories and the Shirley Goodman Resource Center, which houses the Gladys Marcus Library and the FIT Museum. The school continued to grow, adding modern facilities such as the Lighting Design / Research Lab, the Annette Green Fragrance Foundation studio (the first of its kind on a college campus) making international programs available to students, developing their academic offerings.

Today the campus covers the entire city block and serves more than 10,000 students. The college offers degrees in a variety of subjects such as menswear, cosmetics, perfume marketing, which are unique to the college, as well as fashion business management, visual presentation design, and toy exhibitions.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

  • You complete an online application and receive confirmation that it has been accepted.
  • After receiving your initial confirmation from FIT, students will receive a second email with a personalized link to submit personal essay.
  • Essay should answer the following questions: What makes you an ideal FIT candidate? Why are you interested in the specialty you are applying for? The essay is a chance to tell more about students experiences, activities and achievements (750 words).
  • Documents must be submitted from all institutions (no exceptions) regardless of the type of institution, subjects studied or their relationship to FIT. Such documents must indicate all subjects passed, all grades received and all degrees awarded. If students are a high school student receiving college credit, please send a transcript from the college or university that is awarding the award.
  • If the student have studied abroad or attended high school or high school (s) outside the United States, please submit personal academic papers from schools outside the United States to a non-FIT member of the National Association of ID Assessment Services.
  • FIT will only accept academic documents that have been officially endorsed (stamped, signed by the Registrar or designated official) by the institution issuing or awarding the award.
  • If the student are applying to study at the School of Art and Design, the student must submit a portfolio.

Requirements for knowledge of English:

  • TOEFL - minimum 80 TOEFL iBT points;
  • IELTS - minimum 6.5 points in the academic module;
  • PTE - not less than 53 points.
