The Massachusetts College of Art and Design, known as MassArt, is a public college of visual arts and applied arts in Boston. Founded in 1873, it is one of the oldest art schools in the country, the only autonomous art school funded by the state, and the first art college in the United States to receive an art degree. MassArt is a member of Fenway Colleges (a collegiate consortium for the sharing of resources and facilities located in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area of Boston), as well as (an association of seven Boston colleges dedicated to the visual and performing arts).
