GCSE

  • Age of students: 14-16 years

GCSE is the final stage of high school in the UK, representing two years of study. The main objective of the program is to create conditions for learning that allow you to maximize the potential of each student. That is why all students are required to learn English and mathematics + independently choose 4 remaining subjects from the following list:

  • Art;
  • Textile art;
  • Drama;
  • Dancing;
  • French;
  • Geography;
  • Story;
  • Computer science;
  • Latin;
  • Spanish language;
  • Music;
  • Physical development;
  • Study of religions.

One of the four subjects must necessarily be a foreign language, and the remaining 3 are freely chosen: you can include another foreign language in your schedule. The only general recommendation is the study at least one course in the humanities - geography, history or religions of the world - while these disciplines do not  apply to mandatory ones.

The learning process includes both different forms of academic studies (lectures, presentations, debates, seminars) and the acquisition of knowledge and experience in the external environment - outside the school. For example, as part of the study of some courses, teachers conduct classes in the fresh air, organize trips around the UK and beyond, agree on the possibility for students to get their first practical employment experience in the future profession.

After completing the GCSE program, all students of the Battle Abbey School pass exams in accordance with the subjects they have studied. The test results year after year confirm the high quality of teaching, because all students receive marks not lower than C.
