Course Description:

  • Each academic specialty within the Summer Scholars Program consists of two courses (you need to earn 6 credits in total)
  • Lessons take place 5 days a week: 3 hours in the morning plus 3 hours in the afternoon.

  • The structure of the program's courses includes guest lectures, practical experiences, open discussions, laboratory work and field research.

    • School of Architecture (architecture and design)

  • Students learn about all aspects of American education, experience campus life, and learn the academic requirements of professors.

University of Miami Academies

  • Dates: July 06-19
  • Age of students: 14-17 years old
  • Duration: 2 weeks
  • Language of instruction: English.

Program specifics:

  • Studying academic courses is not counted when entering college; there are no credits.
  • Classes are held daily on weekdays in the morning and after lunch.

The choice of students provided courses in three areas:

1. Business and entrepreneurship courses, where students learn to turn innovative ideas into viable companies or products.

Studying implies:

  • Nurturing future business leaders
  • Work in teams for developing and launching startups
  • Studying of business plan, risk and opportunity analysis skills.

2. Medical research courses are designed for students who adore biology and medicine.

In the classroom, high school students will be able to:

  • Interact with practicing physiologists, scientific researchers, medical school students;
  • Satisfy the thirst of the first practical experiments in the field of biology;
  • Understand how the work of scientific researchers is arranged;
  • Form a clear picture of the wide range of professions that they can choose in the field of medicine.

3. Shark study and protection courses allow students to explore the relationship between urbanization, climate change and the life of sea creatures. Classes are held in boats at sea and in the laboratories of the University of Miami.

Studying includes:

  • Shark abundance tracking
  • Taking physiological samples with their subsequent laboratory analysis
  • Practical participation of adolescents in research under the direct supervision of scientists and curators.

Accommodation, meals, prices

Accommodation and full-board meals are included in the tuition fee at the University of Miami Summer. The teenagers are accommodated in the residence of the university in double rooms equipped with a shared bathroom and air conditioning. For their comfort there are also provided:

  • Full set of bed linen
  • Free internet access via Wi-Fi
  • Free laundry.

There is a canteen on the university territory, providing students with healthy food, including vegetarian and dishes that do not contain gluten. As part of the summer camp, there are 3 meals of hot meals daily - all of them are included in the cost of the program, the portion size is not limited.

Activities University of Miami Summer academic camp

The program of the University of Miami summer school includes numerous after-school and evening activities, trips, weekend excursions, most of which are included in the tuition fee, including visits to:

  • Historic Art Deco District (Miami)
  • Key Largo
  • Natural Territorial Complex Everglades
  • Baseball team miami marlins
  • Coral Reef National Park by John Pennekamp.

If desired, and for an additional fee, students can become participants in a weekend workshop at the Shark and Dolphin Behavior Research Center.

Outside campus, high school students can:

  • Go shopping, go to the cinema, play bowling in the Dolphin Mall shopping center
  • Relax on the Key Biscayne beach
  • Study exhibitions at the Pérez Museum of Art
  • Help beach guards (civilian work).

The following entertainment is provided on campus:

  • Evening karaoke
  • Casses of different types of art, crafts
  • Pool parties
  • Talent show.

Advantages

  • Safety of students in the field of health: both on campus and outside, they can go to the doctor if they feel unwell, the teenagers will be accompanied by a curator.
  • Every day, records of attendance of lessons by high school students are kept, the rooms in which they live are checked.
  • Teenagers are allowed to leave the campus on their own and walk around it in small groups.
  • On the campus of the University of Miami, a variety of sporting and recreational activities are constantly held: three to five such activities can be visited per day.
