The famous OHLA Miami (OHLA Miami) language center opens its doors to students from all over the world in the summer.

Miami (Florida) is one of the most important and popular resorts not only in the US, but all over the world: here, almost all year round, a bright sun shines, and a pleasant warm climate provides a stunning beach holiday. The city is also famous for its entertainment infrastructure, an abundance of first-class shops, amazingly beautiful architecture and an amazing national diversity of inhabitants. The OHLA Miami school campus is located in the heart of this vibrant city, which gives you the opportunity to get to know all its sights, to plunge into the life of the American resort metropolis.

Quick overview:

About the educational course: On the first day of the program, all students take an entrance test: it determines their level of knowledge and distributes them to the appropriate group - so training becomes more efficient, quick and comfortable. Initial testing consists of a general language exam and an individual interview with the teacher.

Each student can choose the optimal intensity of the course:

  • 15 lessons per week (3 lessons per day from 9:00 to 12:00 on weekdays);
  • 20 lessons per week.

The lessons are aimed at the overall improvement of all key language knowledge and skills:

  • Reading;
  • Auditing (listening comprehension);
  • Oral, spoken English;
  • Written English;
  • Grammar;
  • Phonetics (correction of accent and pronunciation);
  • Vocabulary (active expansion of vocabulary).

Particular emphasis is placed on the development of oral speech, communication skills, so that children do not have difficulty communicating in any life situation. In addition, the classes conduct themed blocks to prepare for future events, excursions, visiting the iconic attractions of Miami and Orlando.

Accommodation, meals, prices

International students of summer programs can choose to live in a host family or in a residence (note some age restrictions prescribed in each option).

1) General student residence

Coral Gables Residence is open to students 12-18 years old: it is located about 5 miles from the school (in the mornings a free shuttle bus is organized). Each student is accommodated in a double comfortable studio with private facilities and shower room: the rooms are equipped with necessary equipment (including cable TV and Wi-Fi), fully furnished. Weekly maid cleaning is carried out, bed linen and towels are changed, the whole area is guarded around the clock.

There is a full board meal (three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner). For the duration of excursions (especially long ones - for example, in Orlando parks) each student receives a voucher for lunch.

2) Host family

Accommodation in a host family is available to students from 16 years of age or older. This is a great opportunity to learn more about American traditions, cultural characteristics, mentality, and also to practice communicative and speech skills daily in direct communication with native speakers.

All families carefully selected and checked by school representatives live within 60-90 minutes of the journey from the school, in a calm and prestigious district of Kendall. Each student receives an unlimited travel card, facilitating a daily transfer to the school.

All host families speak Spanish and English, there are no more than 2 foreign students in each house: the accommodation department strives to achieve the maximum ethnic and cultural diversity.

Students live in private rooms, fully furnished and with necessary appliances, and eat on a half-board basis (on weekdays) and full board (on weekends). Lunch on weekdays is usually held by students in the school grounds, and during long excursions each student receives a voucher for lunch.

Departures are held on Saturdays, arrivals - on Sundays. The minimum booking period is 2 weeks.

Activities OHLA Miami Summer School

In addition to regular city excursions and walks in Miami, shopping and visiting the main city attractions, students are offered beach holidays and water sports, picnics and barbecues, beach volleyball and windsurfing, boating. On weekends, student groups often go to the famous theme parks of Orlando - these are almost unlimited entertainment opportunities for any age!

On average, up to 10 recreational activities and excursions are held every week: on weekdays, students are usually expected to travel a few hours after lunch plus 1-3 full day excursions, and weekend student groups often spend in themed and entertainment parks Orlando and other neighboring cities.

List of most interesting variants of pastime and leisure:

  • General bus tour of Miami - Big Bus Tour;
  • Trip to campus University of Central Florida (the second largest university campus in the USA);
  • Amusement park " Adventure Island "(Adventure Island): in its development and arrangement took part the legendary Steven Spielberg! Students will be able to plunge into the world of the Jurassic Period, adventures in the spirit of Indiana Jones, try themselves in the role of Hulk or Spider-Man;
  • Universal Studios amusement park: a huge entertainment park and a cinema complex will immerse students in the world of any films: "Terminator", "Jaws", "Tornado", "Earthquake", etc.;
  • The Walt Disney World is considered to be the largest in the world: it is divided into thematic parts, so that each student will be able to enjoy this or that attraction;
  • Sea World theme park : Giant oceanariums, a variety of attractions and spacious aviaries with mammals and amphibians. An interesting show with killer whales and dolphins, funny penguins and funny fur seals, a contact aquarium with a ramp, a tunnel through an aquarium with sharks ... Unforgettable experiences are guaranteed;
  • Everglades National Park is an ideal choice for eco-tourism: the subtropical landscapes typical of the state of Florida are preserved, and many rare and endemic species of plants and animals are protected. Excursions are held not only on foot, but also on boats, canoes, bicycles - the territory of the park is simply huge;
  • Metro Zoo - one of the largest zoos in the US: animals live here not in cages, but in huge enclosures, fenced off by moats. To look at the animal closer, it will be possible to pass through a glass tunnel: this is done in order to create the most authentic habitat for animals without unnecessary noise and fuss from tourists;
  • Rapid Water Park is the largest water park in South Florida with more than 30 slides: closed and open, high-speed and unhurried, whirlpools, "Pool with crocodiles", water shooting range, shipwreck site;
  • Perez Art Museum is a large and interesting museum of contemporary art, exhibiting from around the world, created in the 20th and 21st centuries. The museum building itself is also impressive - its original shape, ideally combined with the surrounding landscape, numerous electronic installations, etc.;
  • The vibrant and vibrant area of ​​Cocowalk is an ideal place for city walks and shopping. There are also many cozy restaurants in which you can try various dishes of world cuisine, a huge luxury cinema, numerous bars and a jazz cafe;
  • Jungle Island is a contact zoo where well-groomed and healthy animals will be happy to meet visitors. Residents of the zoo can feed, pat, see with them a small view (a special healthy food is sold here in vending machines).

Facilities and equipment at OHLA Miami Summer School

The summer camp is located in the respectable Brickell area - the famous and large financial center of South Florida, a beautiful and infrastructurally rich area of ​​the city. Often Brickell is called South Manhattan - there are many skyscrapers that form the unique style and appearance of the district and city: offices of large international companies, banks, shops, famous restaurants, etc.

The lessons are held in Brickell Campus, located in the high-rise complex Four Ambassadors. The school is located in Tower No. 3 and occupies the 18th floor almost completely: the windows offer stunning views of the sea and the panorama of the city. For students open doors 25 bright spacious classrooms, 3 computer classes with modern PCs, a special training center with interactive and language equipment. A spacious cozy lounge serves as a common gathering place: here groups gather before departure on excursions, it is possible to communicate with classmates and new friends. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the school.

International pupils of the school have the opportunity to freely use all the services and facilities of the complex: large swimming pools with jacuzzi, gym and fitness room, health and fitness center.

Admission dates and extra charges

Tuition fee depends on a chosen program. Types of educational programs:

  • Standard course (20 lessons weekly);
  • Semi-intensive course (24 lessons per week);
  • Intensive course (28 lessons weekly);
  • Semi-intensive course + preparation for exams (35 lessons);
  • Preparation for Cambridge exams, TOEFL or IELTS (15 lessons weekly);
  • One-to-one lessons (10 per week ).

Each lesson lasts 50 minutes. The cost already includes initial testing of the level of knowledge.

Some services are paid additionally:
