Description of The Oratory School Summer Camp

The Oratory School is an institution with a rich history, which is the place where many popular works were written. For example, in one of the premises of the educational institution, several chapters of the literary masterpiece "The Hobbit" by J. S. Smith were written. J. R. R. Tolkien.

The school was founded in 1859. In the last century, its campus was recognized as the best place to play tennis and became a favorite for the royal family, who often came to participate in tournaments against staff and students.

Now the school conducts summer courses for teenagers aged 7 to 17 years. Children have the opportunity to improve their knowledge of English and have a fun holiday.

Multi-activity Programme

The most popular program for children and teenagers, dedicated to a variety of activities, offers a wide range of activities: sports, arts and crafts, outdoor adventures and much more. The program is designed to provide students with a fun and safe environment to learn skills, meet new friends, and have unforgettable summer experiences. 

In addition to all the recreational activities, students will attend English classes, which are used to build trust, engage students in group work, and improve their language skills. The basis of the lessons is communication - children talk a lot, discussing personal interests: books, games, travel, music. This method helps to achieve greater confidence in the use of the language in everyday life and faster memorization of new words and phrases.

The course includes 15 hours of weekly language classes and about 12 hours of themed entertainment, as well as on-campus activities and field trips.

Intensive English

  • Age - from 7 to 17 years,
  • The training period is two weeks.

An intensive English course is ideal for students who want to achieve specific goals in learning it and improve their level of linguistics.

The program consists of 27 hours of English per week, on-campus activities and field trips. 12 hours of lessons will be held in small groups of up to three people - teachers will be able to pay individual attention to each pupil, noticing progress in time, and the remaining 15 hours of classes will be organized in groups of up to 15 people to ensure communication between students. The balance between academic preparation and summer vacation is perfectly maintained, providing students with only positive emotions and experience.

English plus Horse Riding Specialism, English + Horse Riding

The summer course offers students from 7 to 18 years old an exciting pastime with one of the most sensitive animals domesticated by man – horses. Regardless of whether the student has experience in communication, caregiving, or is a beginner, the program is ideal for any child who is in love with these beautiful creatures.

Over the course of a few weeks, students will be able to experience a variety of emotions, from grooming and cleaning stalls to dressage, proper attachment of equipment and reading the emotions of the horse. In cooperation with professional riding schools, Oratory School makes sure that students not only acquire valuable and interesting skills during the course, but also stay safe.

The program is also based on English lessons aimed at improving general knowledge of reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, listening comprehension, and vocabulary. Speaking is an important element of linguistics and, most importantly, it is regularly practiced not only within the classroom – all teachers, instructors, and children speak English. Thus, the weekly schedule includes:

  • 12 hours of horse riding and stable management training,
  • Daily Campus Activities,
  • Three excursions, one of which takes place in the evening.

Students are accommodated in a comfortable residence and are provided with three meals a day every day. Employees are always there to support them when they need it – staff assistance is available 24/7.

English plus Tennis Specialism, English + Tennis

The tennis program, which takes place during the summer months on the Oratory School campus, is perfect for those who love an active lifestyle! Over the course of a few weeks, students will have fun and spend each day efficiently attending sports training and English classes, exploring the area on field trips, and meeting classmates from different countries.

The tennis course is suitable for all students, regardless of their initial abilities. Children will learn a range of skills, techniques and tactics under the guidance of professional coaches approved by LTA: from positional play to setting a shot, from improving footwork to analysing the opponent's actions.

English lessons, which are the second component of the program, are aimed at improving general linguistics skills: reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, listening, vocabulary and speaking. Conversation practice doesn't just take place in classrooms – it's everywhere: at daily campus events, field trips, sports training, and even in the comfortable residence where all students live during summer courses.

The weekly program includes:

  • 15 hours of English with native teachers,
  • 12 hours of training under the guidance of experienced specialists,
  • Three excursions: two in the afternoon and one in the evening,
  • Daily campus events.

English plus PSG Academy England, English + PSG Academy

  • Age — from 7 to 18 years old,
  • The duration of the training is from one week.

The English plus PSG Academy England summer program provides a unique opportunity to train at the Academy of the world-famous club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Under the guidance of coaches and recovery specialists, students will learn soccer skills in a fun, relaxed environment.

The course includes weekly:

  • 15 hours of language lessons: reading, writing, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, listening and speaking,
  • 12 hours of specialized football training,
  • Three excursions, one of which is in the evening.

Students are accommodated in a residence on campus, living next door to classmates from different countries and staff who provide round-the-clock support and supervision.

Accommodation, meals, prices

Students are accommodated in single, double and multi-bed rooms with students of the same gender and age; Upon request and if possible, employees can accommodate two children familiar in advance together. The bathroom is shared by several residents.

Students are provided with healthy and balanced three meals a day, which are prepared according to the daily menu. Chefs cater to most of the students' dietary requirements if needed.

Employees will provide most of the necessary things to the pupils, but there is a small list of what you should take with you yourself:

  • Several sets of clothes and shoes for warm and cold weather,
  • A small amount of cash (pocket money),
  • Documents
  • Toiletries, including a towel,
  • European adapter for charging gadgets.

Activities The Oratory School Summer Camp

A varied leisure program offers children a variety of activities every day. Classrooms, sports grounds, open spaces, excursions and walks will brighten up the summer holidays of students, giving them the opportunity to get unforgettable emotions and make new friends.

More than 50 different events are held on campus, adapted to the age groups of students. Most of the activities take place in the afternoon: team sports, rock climbing, swimming and nerf wars, karaoke or detective games, escape rooms and much more.

Campus entertainment is ideally complemented by sightseeing trips. Students will be able to visit such famous places as:

  • Warwick Castle (night trip): glamping village, overnight accommodation in tents, attractions and shows, attending jousting duels and much more,
  • London: visit to Buckingham Palace, Horse Guards, Downing Street, Big Ben and the Ferris wheel, boat tour on the Thames,
  • Thorpe Park: many attractions and entertainment, a fair with souvenir shops,
  • Oxford: a historical excursion with a visit to the campus of one of the best universities in the world. Guided boating, sightseeing, and enjoying the natural and architectural beauties of the city.

Facilities and equipment at The Oratory School Summer Camp

The school is located in the picturesque countryside of Oxfordshire, occupies about 1200 acres of green area, where students can learn and grow in a peaceful and secluded environment. Despite its location in the countryside, the school is easily accessible from both London and Oxford due to good transport links to both cities. 

The area has excellent modern equipment:

  • Areas for recreation and walking,
  • Accommodations.

The campus location allows students to quickly reach the nearest Heathrow Airport, which is just a 45-minute drive away.

Admission dates and extra charges

The education in summer programs takes place from July to August. The duration of each course is flexible and adapts to the wishes of the student: from two to seven weeks on campus.

Basic services such as accommodation, meals, activities and excursions are included in the course price. School staff advise children to provide money for souvenirs, sweets and drinks - about £ 50 per week.

Enrolment process

The admission process is in several stages:

  • Filling out the registration form online,
  • Submission of required documents,
  • Making a deposit – 50% of the cost of the program to reserve a place on the course,
  • Obtaining clarifying information about the course: letter of invitation, handbook, airport transfer, arrival dates and other facts.

The school team meets students at the airport and organizes transfers. Students arrive during the daytime every Sunday, but if necessary, you can come to campus at any time. Check-in takes place until 15:00.

Perspectives

At the end of the education, students improve their English language skills by at least one level and gain confidence in using it in everyday life. Classes in summer programs will help students enroll in English-speaking institutions, communicate freely with local residents on tourist trips or when living in England, the USA, and Canada.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

To get into the summer program, the applicant must provide some personal documents translated into English:

  • Birth certificate, passport,
  • Health insurance, vaccination certificate.

You also need to inform the admissions committee of the personal data of parents or guardians.

The level of knowledge of the English language is not important, as groups are formed taking into account the abilities and age of students.
