Description of Private school Reddam House School Berkshire

  • Location: Wokingham, Great Britain,
  • Year of foundation: 1827,
  • Number of students: about 490,
  • Language of instruction: English,
  • Type of teaching: blended.

Reddam House School Berkshire is an independent private boarding school offering co-education for boys and girls from 3 to 18 years of age in a residential and daytime format. Most students attend classes during the day, leaving the campus after activities, and around 50 students choose to stay in a comfortable residence.

The institution was founded in 1827 in London as the Royal Merchant Navy School, educating children whose parents had died at sea. There are still strong links with the founding company and the Royal Navy. In 1921 Reddam House moved to its present site in Berkshire County.

Reddam House is a member of the Boarding School Association (BSA) and the Society of Headmasters and Headmistresses of Independent Schools (SHMIS): the constant exchange of experience and knowledge with qualified colleagues helps to keep pace with the times and offer pupils the most effective programs and comfortable conditions. According to the last inspection by Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI, conducted regularly for all boarding schools in Great Britain), the school earned the highest marks: "Good" for the children's progress and extracurricular education, "Excellent" for the quality of care for students, "Excellent" for the level of education of students.

Officially the school belongs to the Anglican Church, but representatives of any denomination and religion, of any nationality, gender and color are welcome here.

Marie de Tito Mount
Chief Executive Officer

What advice would you give to future applicants before applying to British schools and why?

Understand the school’s ethos and ensure it aligns with your goals. I would further advise students to prioritise their English language studies in preparation for the entrance testing phase.

When looking at applicants, we consider not only the academic record and entrance exam performance, but also students who not only excel academically but also demonstrate character and potential for growth.

Things to know about

  • All students wear a uniform, the rules of which are weakened only in high school - future graduates are allowed to wear business-style clothes,
  • Students can use their own bicycles or cars,
  • The most common punishment for misconduct is verbal warnings, suspension from events, or community service. In exceptional cases, for example, special cruelty or alcohol consumption on campus, the staff immediately expels the student,
  • Students can bring their own laptops or use one of the school's 40 internet-connected PCs,
  • The school has adaptive programs for students suffering from a mild form of dyslexia: they are offered supportive English language courses, additional training in academic subjects and assistance in everyday matters.

The rhythm of the day is learning a measured and effective household schedule, starting from breakfast and including entertaining, academic classes.

Children can stay on campus for as long as they feel comfortable:

The weekly schedule is also adjusted to the wishes of parents and their child: from one to five days of lessons at a convenient time.

Classrooms are designed to develop specific skills of a child of a certain age, offering a "home", diverse environment that ensures that each child feels comfortable and happy while learning. Caregivers personally welcome children to each room and support them at every stage. Each space is carefully stocked with natural objects or jars of crayons to inspire each child to explore color, shape, and pattern. In the classrooms there are building models for the development of fine motor skills, coloring books and sculpting kits.

Staff and teachers regularly interact with parents, telling them about their child's well-being and success. Online learning logs, parent evenings, reports and regular sessions of parents' stay on campus are an important addition to the high-quality training of young schoolchildren and their comfortable adaptation. In addition, picnics, shows, information events and sports days bring families together and create an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding.
