The history of the state research university begins in 1957. Initially, it was a college designed to teachers, and he received university status in 1962 after moving to Stony Brook not far from New York - hence the name of a high school.

Accommodation, meals, prices

There are about 30 student residences throughout the SBU territory, and 8 cafes and canteens are provided for meals, where a varied menu is offered - international cuisine, vegetarian and even hypoallergenic.

When assigning students to dormitories, administrators usually lodge students as close as possible to the chosen college or high school. There are several accommodation formats available on campus:

  • Corridor style housing: residence for 30 students. Rooms for 1-2 people, shower and toilet on the floor.
  • Suite style housing: residence for up to 6 people. In the room live from 1-3 people. Kitchen and bathroom are in the room.

In both types of hostels there are common lounges: board games, billiards, table tennis, TV. The living rooms of all residences are beautifully furnished.

The administration of Stony Brook is thinking about the safety of its students, so a security system is in place throughout the campus. A special company Emergency Management Office is responsible for the solution of all questions from this area. Also, young people have an application to call the police themselves if necessary. For 24 hours, the campus is under video surveillance.

Activities Stony Brook University

The internal policy of the University SBU implies that social activities of the school are just as important as the academic process, so more than 400 student communities, clubs and organizations that offer activities for every taste operate on the basis of the University of Stony Brook. Every year there are various festivals, competitions and other events in which not only students are involved, but also teachers and invited guests. All these activities are reflected in local newspapers: they are printed or electronic publications with different target audiences, there is a radio and its own television.

For admission to the University of Stony Brook applicants need to prepare a minimum set of documents:

  • English testing (TOEFL - 80, SAT - 430; IELTS - 6.5)
