Description of Stony Brook School

  • Year of foundation: 1922;
  • Location: Stony Brook, Long Island, New York, USA;
  • Age of students: 13-18 years;
  • Total number of students: 332 people (28% are foreign students);
  • Type of program: mixed;
  • Type of accommodation: residence (full board, approximately 60% of students);
  • Language of instruction: English.

Stony Brook School - an educational institution quite unique and distinctive. It surprisingly combines modern high-level education, working with innovative technologies and teaching methods and in-depth study of the Bible, the assimilation and acceptance of traditional Christian values. In the curriculum it is possible to combine respect for both religion and science, students simultaneously use both scientific intuition and critical, analytical thinking. All this contributes to a real understanding of information, the development of thought, and not the standard senseless cramming.

The mission of the school is also vividly reflected in their motto - "Character before the career". Here they bring up not narrow-minded careerists who are ready to adapt to any averaged framework and conditions, but original, unique, enterprising individuals who are ready to look for non-standard ways and solutions that boldly build their own path in modern life. The ratio of teachers to pupils is 1: 8 (classes of no more than 14 people): this is how one manages to practice an individual, maximally personal approach, to form and disclose unique abilities, talents, personal qualities and characteristics of each student's character. Help and regular individual consultations - any teacher can apply to any teacher even during non-working hours.

Such attention brings excellent results, including purely in the statistical data on student performance - so, the average score of SAT in the students was 1781 according to the latest data. Graduates can easily enter the most prestigious and elite universities in the US, Europe and the world, including:

  • Cornell University;
  • University of New York;
  • Boston University;
  • University of Pennsylvania;
  • Columbia University.

The list of graduates includes many well-known, successful and popular specialists:

  • Sarah Drew (actress);
  • William G. Bowdler (Assistant Secretary of State, Ambassador);
  • Heinrich Holland (Honorary Professor of Science, Harvard);
  • Clayton Daily (Chief Financial Officer of Procter & Gamble);
  • Charles F. Johnson executive producer of CBS (in particular, the company Paramount Pictures);
  • Lars Braunworth (a successful historian and writer) and many others.
