Jumeira Baccalaureate School (JBC) is an international educational institution that provides all four stages of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, catering to students from preschool to grade 12. IB Primary Stage, International Baccalaureate Programme for Primary Grades

  • Age – from three to 11 years old,
  • The duration of the study is nine years.

The Primary Years Program is aimed at the versatile development of the child, encouraging his natural curiosity and exploring the world around him with the help of various materials and methods. The program is designed for children from 3 to 12 years old. Teachers implement lessons in such a way that young pupils play a lot and communicate with their peers, interact with teachers. Included in the weekly schedule are lessons covering six areas:

  • Who are we?
  • Where are we in place and time?
  • How does the world work?
  • How do we organize ourselves?
  • How do we express ourselves?
  • Conscious consumption and ecology.

Classes are aimed at honing basic skills, a broad understanding of the world around us and the possibilities of using resources. Teachers pay a lot of attention to standard subjects:

IB Middle Stage, International Baccalaureate Middle School Programme

  • Age — from 11 to 15 years old,
  • The duration of the study is five years.

The middle school curriculum builds on and deepens the knowledge gained in primary school. Students in grades 6-10 gradually prepare for the transition to the final stage of school education by studying the main subject areas:

  • Two languages: English, Arabic, French,
  • Mathematics
  • Art
  • Physical Education,
  • Humanities
  • Science
  • Technology.

In Year 10, all students will create an individual project that reflects their interests and academic abilities.

IB Diploma Programme

  • Age — from 16 to 18 years old,
  • The duration of the training is two years.

The IBDP Diploma Program is a two-year graduate curriculum that prepares high school students to take exams and enter university. The IBDP diploma is recognized by leading universities around the world, while students who receive it during their school years go through the admission process much easier, avoiding some entrance tests.

Pupils will have to study six subjects: five of them must be chosen from each subject group, and the sixth from groups one to five:

  1. Research in the field of language and literature,
  2. Language acquisition,
  3. Individuals and Societies,
  4. Science
  5. Mathematics
  6. Art.

In addition to the set of subjects, students need to take courses that will help them develop personal and individual qualities. Course certification will show the university's admissions office the student's level of knowledge and ability.

  • An extended essay is an individual written work that reveals a topic of interest to the student. The topic should be chosen in the areas of the disciplines studied,
  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a critical thinking course in which students consider the nature of cognition and understanding human construction,
  • Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) – Participation in extracurricular activities of the school community and city activities: you can distinguish yourself with creativity, athletic success, and volunteer activities.

To gain access to the final exams, the pupil needs to score 24 points in subject areas. Exams are taken in writing and assessed by external International Baccalaureate examiners. The highest score a student can achieve is 45.

IB Career-based Program

  • Age — from 16 to 18 years old,
  • The duration of the training is two years.

The IB Career-based Diploma Programme is distinguished by the fact that the entire curriculum is aimed at developing the student's academic and professional skills. It includes all subjects of the IBDP program, in addition to which BTEC courses are available.

Pupils will have to complete a minimum of two IBDP subjects, a core four-component IBCP programme, and career training. The curriculum includes internships and visits to the offices of leading companies, which will help students decide on what they love and prepare for the start of their career path.

Accommodation, meals, prices

The school operates in a full-time format and does not have residential residences.

Pupils are provided with healthy meals and beverages in the large dining room. Meals are delivered to the facility by a certified catering company, Leela's Lunches. The assortment of appetizers and meals was developed by the company's in-house nutritionists and chefs. Nutrients remain intact as food is prepared on-site to ensure that each meal is as fresh as possible. Portion sizes meet the requirements of the British Paediatric Association, all portions are delivered in eco-friendly, biodegradable packaging, which emphasizes care for the environment and conscious consumption of materials.

The meals take into account a variety of taste preferences of students, including special requests: dishes without beans, gluten, dairy products and allergens in the composition.

Parents of elementary and middle school students can have a daily meal plan that is updated every month. Older students can use the account, which is replenished to buy lunches, to spend on their own in the cafeteria: snacks, drinks and healthy sweets.

Activities Jumeira Baccalaureate School

JBS supports education that goes beyond the classroom by providing a diverse and engaging range of sports, creative, cultural, and aesthetic activities.

Working with more than 20 of Dubai's leading academies, JBC encourages pupils to take advantage of extracurricular opportunities in academic, artistic, performing, language, design and athletic activities, each focused on their individual learning journey and outcome.  Sports sections for team and individual sports, dance and music, fine arts and design - these and many other areas are implemented after school hours in specialized studios, on open areas and courts. Twice a year JBC runs a sports tour for gifted and talented sports team players. To date, they have already toured England and Singapore, playing a number of netball and football matches against other international schools. 

Regular excursions allow students to experience a variety of emotions from the natural and cultural beauties of Dubai. Students will be able to visit local attractions to learn about the UAE's heritage and culture, participate in specialized day tours, workshops on topics such as leadership and psychology, and explore innovative spaces that broaden students' understanding of science and design.

Middle school students participate in academic trips, such as Model United Nations, which take place both locally and internationally. An annual ski trip is offered, which will allow you to learn new skills and try your hand at new sports. Every year, students can visit China, Kenya and Sri Lanka as JBS partners with Camp International. 

The extracurricular life of students is diverse thanks to thematic clubs and associations: they reflect the interests of students and their hobbies, giving them the opportunity to be in a circle of like-minded people and realize their potential. From academic clubs and sports clubs to creative associations and research groups, a wide variety of communities will allow students to choose the right place for themselves in the school community.

Facilities and equipment at Jumeira Baccalaureate School

The JBS campus is located in Jumeirah-1, in the heart of Dubai, occupies an area of 33,000 square meters, providing modern conditions for education, sports and performing arts.

The sports infrastructure of the campus includes:

  • FIFA Professional Size Grass Field For Soccer And Rugby,
  • Two indoor sports halls that can be considered full-size professional basketball courts. They are suitable for playing netball, five-a-side football, badminton, indoor hockey and volleyball,
  • Large 25-meter swimming pool + additional swimming area,
  • Two nets for outdoor cricket ,
  • Two full-size rooftop outdoor tennis courts,
  • Outdoor playgrounds and a modern paddle court.

Four academic buildings of JBS have modern equipment for teaching students of a certain age.

  • Building J is home to the youngest students, from preschool to first grade. This building houses a gym, music classes, a playground and a medical center. Next to the J-building there are two swimming pools: one for beginners and one for more advanced athletes.
  • The Bacc building is for elementary school students. There is a special hall for art and science, two scientific laboratories, a department of modern languages, and three floors of lecture halls for the study of the Arabic language and Islamic culture.
  • Building S is an academic playground for students in grades 6-12. It includes three additional science labs, two IT classrooms, a design studio, a cafeteria, a gym, and specialized classes in mathematics, English, and digital design. There is also a professional music class, and tennis courts and outdoor playgrounds are next door.
  • The library building has several floors with storage of books for each of the educational departments, the Faculty of Humanities and areas for self-study, group and individual projects.

The open area of JBS is completely safe and accessible to all pupils. Playgrounds, relaxation and reading areas, shaded lunch and snack areas are all designed to make students feel comfortable.

Admission dates and extra charges

The academic year consists of three terms:

  • Winter: September-December,
  • Spring: January-March,
  • Summer: April-July.

Holidays are held at the end of each trimester, students also rest on national and international holidays. Classes are organized on weekdays: Monday to Friday. The weekly schedule is different depending on the level of the school class: from 8:15 to 12:00/14:10/15:30. On Fridays, lessons end earlier for all students.

Enrolment process

  • Submission of the online application and required documents. All applications are accepted in digital format only,

All candidates pass entrance exams, which differ depending on the age of the future student:

  • Students from Pre-K to KG2 will be invited to an informal stay and a classroom game during which teachers will observe the child and assess his or her abilities.
  • Children entering grades 1-2 can be invited to paper assessment in the main subjects: English, mathematics, science,
  • Children entering grades 3-11 will take a computerized assessment of cognitive ability, the CAT4 test. 

The institution offers an alternative testing option for international applicants who are unable to arrive on campus.

Admission to the school is based on the results of the assessment, interviews with students, and previous school reports.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Parents of prospective students should provide copies of personal and academic documents:

  • Personal documents of the child and parents: passports, visas or residence permits, Emirates ID cards, birth certificate,
  • Health insurance and vaccination card,
  • School reports for the last one to two years, e.g. scorecards,
  • Any psychological and other assessments of specialists.

The language of instruction is English, so it will be easier for a middle and high school student with a level of at least B1. The school will provide language courses if the student lacks knowledge.

Scholarships Jumeira Baccalaureate School

Scholarship eligibility is available to students in grades 6 to 11 – they encourage students who are successful in their studies and sports activities:

  • Sport – awarded to candidates based on proven athletic ability, potential, determination and enthusiasm,
