Primary School

  • Age — from five years old,
  • The duration of the study is six years.

The stage of education in primary school is no less important than preschool preparation: thanks to the knowledge acquired in the first to sixth grades, students receive a variety of experiences and understanding of the world around them, become confident in themselves and their personal opinions.

The curriculum provides outstanding opportunities based on the National System of England and adapted to the unique environment in Dubai. Lessons are planned with a values-based approach to learning that develops a sense of international thinking, empathy, and a deep understanding of the world around us. Students learn to take care of the environment and have a practical approach to problem-solving at the same time. Moral education and social studies are an integral part of the curriculum.

The curriculum includes differentiated lessons that define the children's personal learning goals. Students learn at level 6C: they are critical thinkers, communicative, responsive, caring, creative, and courageous in everything they do. In the process of studying standard disciplines, including mathematics, English and Arabic, natural and exact sciences, children develop horizons and find strong academic sides in themselves. At the end of elementary school, students are fully prepared for the academically rigorous high school curriculum and the first final exams awaiting them in Grade 11.

Secondary School

  • Age — from 11 years old,
  • The duration of the study is five years.

The high school is designed for children from 11 to 16 years old and is divided into two separate stages: Keys Stage 3 (11-13) and Key Stage 4 (14-16). In the process of learning, students move from attending classes with one teacher to subject teachers who will teach them various disciplines.

The focus is on supporting each student, whether they choose a traditional academic path or a more individualized curriculum. Main subjects to study:

  • English language
  • Mathematics
  • Natural science
  • Humanities: Geography and History,
  • Modern languages: French, Spanish and Arabic,
  • Social Sciences: Psychology, Sociology, Business and Economics,
  • Expressive Arts: Drama, Music, Media Studies and Art,
  • Physical Education: Health-improving and examination types of physical education.

Choosing the right subjects can be a daunting task, especially when the options are narrowed down to admission to a higher education institution. Teachers guide their pupils and help them choose disciplines to prepare for and pass them for GCSE. The subjects are divided into five blocks, from which you need to choose at least four disciplines.

At the end of high school, students can enter Grade 12 or complete their school education by attending college.

  • The duration of the training is two years.

Sixth Form is a program that completes school education and consists of education in grades 12-13. It provides students with a choice between two courses: BTEC and A-Level, one of which will have to take final exams.

BTEC courses focus on skill-based learning and are built around thematic modules. This hands-on approach allows students to develop and apply the knowledge that employers, college and university admissions officers look for in their candidates. DBS-EH offers BTEC Level II (equivalent to GCSE) and Level III (equivalent to A-Level) qualifications. Year 10-11 students can take a combination of GCSE and BTEC courses, Year 12-13 have a variety of options – they can choose any of the following combinations:

  • One dual BTEC course (equivalent to two A-Levels) and one separate course (equivalent to one A-Level),
  • Three separate BTEC courses (each equivalent to one A-Level,
  • A blended curriculum consisting of one or two BTEC courses and one or two traditional A-Levels (equivalent to three A-Levels).

The BTEC courses offered at DBSEH do not contain an examination component: instead, students complete a series of internally assessed assignments over a period of two years. By completing a certain number of tasks, they will be able to receive the necessary amount of points and, as a result, overall qualifications. Current available BTEC subjects include Business, Graphics, Information Technology, Sports, Travel, and Tourism.

The A-Level course involves a choice of disciplines from thematic blocks: three subjects from five sets that most closely match their interests and abilities. The list of available disciplines includes:

  • Mathematics
  • Geography
  • History
  • English Literature,
  • Spanish
  • Music
  • Dramatic Art,
