Description of Ellesmere College Shropshire with football academy

  • Founded: 1884
  • Location: Ellesmere, North Shropshire, United Kingdom
  • Students age: 7-18 years
  • Total students: 585 people (187 of them on board)
  • Type of study: mixed
  • Type of accommodation: residence (boarding house)
  • Language of instruction: English.

Initially, Ellesmere College (England School of Ellesmere College with Football Academy) was founded as a school for boys (in 1884 it was opened under the auspices of the Anglican Church). Today it is a secular school of mixed education that provides effective and balanced educational programs for students of 7-18 years: the relationship with the Anglican church is still warm and close, but the children of any confession and religion are accepted for the boarding school.

Ellesmere College is part of the Woodard Corporation, Britain's largest private boarding association, founded by the legendary Nathaniel Woodard. At school, each student has a mentor: he helps children in solving household, administrative and educational issues, maintains contact with parents and regularly reports on the progress and success of the student.

Graduates of the school are easily enrolled in prestigious universities in the UK and in the world. Among the most popular options are:

Regional Manager CIS

Why do parents choose primary and secondary schools in Britain for their children?

I think parents understand that such schools will really help the child to open up, find himself and enter the best university.

Educational process

The college is part of a community of schools around the world that have adopted a high-impact learning approach based on the work of Deborah Eyre. It is believed that every child has the potential to become an effective learner, and with self-belief and a good set of tools, they can achieve greater academic success and gain confidence for life. HPL, aka high-performance learning, is a system developed based on research on how children learn. It reflects what is known about advanced thinking and behavioral skills that help improve brain function. The founder of HPL, Professor Deborah Eyre, has created a framework for improving the quality of teaching that works across nationalities and cultures, so it can be used by schools around the world. Neurological studies have shown that there is no fixed level of ability among young learners, that the brain is more malleable than previously thought. HPL provides a learning style that removes barriers to achievement, empowering children to develop at their own pace.

Faculties and colleges

Ellesmere has several academic departments, each focused on teaching students of a specific age: elementary, middle and high school, the Sixth Form preparation department .

About the educational program: In summer, when boarding students of the main courses go home, the school takes on the campus children from all over the world, offering them interesting combined courses. Usually this is a universal English language course and a variety of entertainment options:

  • Adventure;
  • Multi-Sport;
  • Sport leadership, etc.

Also there is an opportunity to practice at the summer sports academy without English lessons: tennis, rugby, cricket, and in 2017 a certified Academy of Football will start on campus basis.

Quick overview: This is the international “gold standard” for Sixth Form graduates who plan to graduate and prepare for it competently.

About the educational program: This is a complex two-year course with in-depth study of subjects. The list of academic subjects here is even wider than on the A-level course, which opens up much more opportunities for students to study and prepare for graduation. According to statistics, graduates with an IB certificate rarely drop out of universities: they come to them more prepared, and are already accustomed to intense workload.

Each chooses for himself 6 subjects: 3 at the standard level of study and another 3 at a more in-depth, almost university. For convenience, the available items are divided into 6 groups:

  1. German / French, Spanish (for beginners);
  2. English language and literature;
  3. History, Economics;
  4. Biology, Physics;
  5. Mathematics, Mathematical Sciences;
  6. Chemistry, Geography, Music art, Dramatic / Visual arts.

Mandatory choice is only English and literature (group 2).
