How long have you been working in secondary education?

— 12 years already.

What makes British schools so special for families around the world?

British Secondary School gives children the opportunity to try different subjects during GCSE programs (high school course for children aged 14-15) and determine the priority direction for themselves when entering the university. Moreover, the certificate of the British school gives the opportunity to enter the most famous and respected universities in the world, including Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, MIT, etc. At the same time, the educational model at secondary schools in England teaches children to think critically, work with information correctly, organize their time, and approach any issues structurally. And, of course, a teacher in England is a friend who helps to maximize the child's potential, work with his strengths. The student is listened to, his opinion is important.

Why do parents choose primary and secondary schools in Britain for their children?

— I think parents understand that such schools will really help the child to open up, find himself and enter the best university.

UK boarding school ranking: what criteria are used to compile it? How much can you trust them?

— In most cases, rankings are based on the results of exams provided by the school. It is important to look at selectivity here: does the school only accept the best students or can it help everyone achieve maximum results.

What are the most important factors parents should consider when choosing a school?

— Most often, parents are interested in the results of admission, that is, the end result - where the child can go after graduation. The ethnic composition, living and learning conditions are also important.

What is the best time to apply to UK schools? What should you prepare for?

— Preparation starts one year before the intended start. This makes it possible to book the items you want and the most suitable accommodation option.

What subjects are most commonly chosen in recent years?

— Recently, many students choose chemistry, biology, mathematics, often sociology, art, media. There are more than 40 items to choose from in MPW, so you can find options and combinations that are right for you.

Do all schools strive to be ranked among the best?

— I think for most schools reputation and recommendation are important, but the big problem in the rankings is a focus only on the best students. The "average" student often does not receive additional support, which he needs more than an excellent student!

How has COVID-19 affected student numbers? How do boarding schools help children and families during this period?

— According to the latest data, the number of students in secondary schools has not decreased, and even increased! This is due to the fact that England, perhaps, coped best with the organization of the educational process. For almost the entire year, the schools worked offline, while maintaining the hybrid model and fulfilling all preventive norms and requirements. At MPW, because of the small classes of 3-6 people, I didn't even have to change anything in the schedule: it turned out to be easy to maintain social distance. England remains open and friendly towards international students.

Is it difficult to get a scholarship if you are a talented student? What are the usual discounts?

— The school always encourages talented and motivated students with scholarships. The amount is based on a successful interview with the school principal. Typically, a scholarship can range from £ 20,000 to £ 6,000, depending on campus and program.

At what age do foreign students usually enter UK schools?

— The optimal age is 14-15 years. This is the stage when the student adapts to the new educational system as quickly as possible. Moreover, at this age, very important exams are passed, which will be taken into account by universities when entering in the future.

Do all schools offer ESL language support for foreign students? How important is it?

— Our school provides very strong support for English and IELTS preparation. We see that for a year the guys pass IELTS at 7.0-8.0 with the initial level at 5.5-6.0.

What are the expenses for parents during the year, in addition to paying for living and studying?

— In addition to studying and accommodation, additional expenses are possible: preparation for IELTS, payment for exams, additional classes, guardian services. Add in personal expenses, and on average, in addition to studies and living, about 10 thousand pounds per year are added in additional costs.

In addition to academic success, what details do parents consider when choosing a school?

— Location: Most often, parents consider schools in the city center, but in a calm and safe area. The infrastructure and equipment of the classrooms, the teaching staff and the atmosphere in general. In the end, parents must be sure that the child will be comfortable, they will always be supported and helped!

What advice do you have for prospective applicants before entering British schools and why?

— It's a great idea to go to school for a term. This short period will help you understand the style of study and the atmosphere at school, study subjects in the classroom with British students.
