The renowned International School of Schaffhausen is internationally recognized as one of the best schools in Switzerland for IB studies: the International Baccalaureate and the diploma of the same name entitle you to enter the best universities in any country in the world. Both boys and girls from 3 months old to 18 years old can attend the school. The statistics of the graduates (almost 100% of students get into a chosen university from the first attempt) clearly demonstrates the excellent quality of teaching and well-balanced and efficient curriculum.

The International School of Schaffhausen is proud of its international atmosphere: children from 40 countries of different languages, cultures and nationalities get education here. The classes are small, so the teachers may pay closer attention to each student, pay maximum attention and participation, and build strong partnership and trust relationships. The school is attentive to religious and national peculiarities of each child: though the official teaching language is mostly English, there are different supporting language courses for foreigners, additional elective courses and practical classes, the opportunity to take private lessons.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Program

The program of the international baccalaureate is designed for 2 years and for students of 16-18 years (grades 11-12). The total number of subjects studied at this stage is 11: among them, students choose 6 priority disciplines, relying on their own interests and inclinations, as well as on the requirements of the future profession. Teachers recommend observing the academic balance and choosing a variety of specialties and directions: it is recommended that the curriculum include foreign languages ​​(minimum 2), mathematics and computer literacy, social (human) and natural sciences. Of the selected subjects, 3 is being studied at the standard level, and 3 is being studied on an advanced level.

The IB program and the diploma of the same name are widely recognized and appreciated all over the world - this is an ideal option for students who are not fully determined with the university and the country where they plan to receive higher education.

The price of the course is not included and is paid additionally:

Accommodation, meals, prices

The residential program offers several comfortable options for students ages 12 to 18.

Students ages 12-15 are housed in the homes of host families - carefully selected and certified Swiss residents. The homes are located in and around the city and are equipped with a single bedroom for the high school student. He will use the common living and bathing areas and receive three meals a day.
Students who are at least 16 years old are offered boarding accommodations. Boys and girls live on different floors: cozy rooms for 1-3 people with bathrooms are provided for students (private bedrooms are usually occupied by older students), and common areas include living rooms for recreation and small functional kitchens. A small garden has been prepared in the courtyard of the building for relaxation and walks. Breakfasts and dinners are provided daily to the residents.
All students are supervised by tutors, but are always in an atmosphere of independence - careful attention is only given to students when they request it or on special occasions. Staff members help students get the experience of adult life, for example, by letting them go out on the town for weekend shopping or by cooking in the residence hall kitchen.

Subjects and sports

Activities Schaffhausen International Boarding School

Students at the International School of Schaffhausen will find it difficult to get bored in their free time, as there are many clubs, clubs for extracurricular activities, and communities in which they can do what they like and find like-minded people. The most popular clubs include music and drama studios, a cookery club, a poetry club, and a variety of sports clubs.

There are interesting informative trainings, special training programs and master classes. Students who love sports can join the school team "Rams": they regularly participate in various competitions and championships in rugby, soccer, cross-country and basketball, taking first and prize-winning places.

On weekends, exciting excursions, walking tours of the city, visits to museums and carnivals are organized for students. Students can ask the school staff in advance to arrange a trip to a place they would like to see.

Admission dates and extra charges

The school year begins in late August and is divided into two semesters: August-January and February-June. There are several vacation breaks:

  • Two weeks in October,
  • Three weeks for Christmas,
  • One week in February,
  • Two weeks in April.

School classes end at the end of June. The Child Care and Early Development Center is open year-round with the exception of two weeks in the summer and one week at Christmas. 

Additional costs:

  • Language support - CHF 1,300,
  • After-school childcare - CHF 10 per hour,
  • One-off contribution to school fund - CHF 3,500,
  • Entrance fee - CHF 600.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

The elementary department, which includes the Early Childhood Center and Kindergarten, like the elementary and middle grades, has no special requirements for admission. Students preparing for admission to the upper grades must have completed 10th grade in the German or French educational system, and before admission they take a test that determines their linguistic and mathematical abilities.

All applicants wishing to study in either division of the school must submit a report card with grades from their previous school for the past three years, teacher evaluations, diplomas, medals, or letters of recommendation for individual achievement.
