Students are often tested through observation and informal assessment in order to adjust the personalization of teaching methods, to identify the strengths of the students.

The small groups, deep individualization of the Foundation program provide a flexible learning pace.

Students who pass the Foundation program easily progress to third grade. WillowWood studying is becoming more structured. Social studies, natural sciences are taught as separate courses, students participate in many study modules.

The Pod system allows students to access programming at a self-paced level. Children with an uneven learning profile can stay with their peers, access modules both above and below their age level (or both). The goal is to align the student's educational profile over time.

Activities WillowWood School Toronto

The school helps students to find hobbies by interacting with clubs, teams, mentors, and the community.

WillowWood students are engaged in various types of creativity: drawing, sculpture, painting, collage, installation art, technical studying.

In recent years, the visual arts program has been strengthened and expanded with digital arts - photography, film, web design, app design - and is increasingly integrated into other courses and areas of the school. Visual arts students showcase their work in gallery exhibitions, film screenings, school performances, and the spring musical. Courses include photography, technical arts, dance, writing, and more.

The theater program has been running for decades. There is a tradition of holding two large annual performances - a holiday, a pop show in December and a theatrical musical performance. They offer opportunities for many to prove themselves behind the scenes - in costumes, make-up, backstage filming, commercials and more. Recent shows include Glory, Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler on the Roof, The Wizard of Oz.

The music program includes music courses, lunchtime bands, Coffee House Open Mic performances, collaborations with a choir, and provides music for theater performances.

WillowWood is well ahead of the competition in its film study program. Students begin to study cinema as part of the language arts in high school; they can study it formally in the 11th and 12th grades of film studies. Many dyslexic students find that they have a good command of the language of cinema, and focusing on the unwritten aspects of storytelling allows them to identify their strengths.

Review about WillowWood School Toronto

Monika
(01.10.2023)
Willowwood school is an incredible school for kids who need a personalized approach and would benefit from smaller Class sizes and dedicated teachers. Its strongest feature are the incredible and supportive teachers and staff who are mentors, instructors and friends to the students. This school has been a true blessing for my child who did not thrive in other settings. I would recommend this school 100% to anyone looking for a school for their child with a learning disability, or special need including autism spectrum, ADHD, anxiety.
