The unification of the universities of Duisburg and Essen in 2003 allowed the founding of the state higher education institution University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). The university is the youngest university in Germany, but already occupies 34th place in the national ranking and is one of the most prestigious educational institutions. The University of Duisburg-Essen implements more than 230 programs for students from more than 130 countries, is a member of the International Research Universities Network (IRUN) and the European University Association (EUA).

Master's programs of the university are characterized by a pronounced scientific orientation, focus on current issues, forms and research methods. Students acquire in-depth knowledge in the necessary field, which allows them to apply the appropriate scientific methods for independently solving complex problems. Master's programs at UDE focus on applied research in genetics and medical biotechnology, nanotechnology and urbanization systems. Graduates who have successfully completed master's degrees are given the opportunity to obtain a Master of Science (MSc) or Master of Arts (MA).
