The school has a close, welcoming, and supportive international community, with classes from Kindergarten to Grade 13. Across all grades, one of the key aims is to help students develop a positive attitude toward school, learning, and their own capabilities - within an environment where they feel comfortable and valued, and where they can form life-long, meaningful friendships.

Townshend follows the British Cambridge International curriculum, leading to IGCSE and A Level qualifications which are accepted and highly-valued by institutions worldwide (including Europe, North America and Asia). Classes are in English, and additional ESL (English as a Second Language) support is provided to help students develop English fluency.

In addition, the school places great emphasis on character education, so that students can become self-sufficient, critical thinkers, with a sense of social responsibility and an appreciation of cultural and intellectual diversity.

The unique boarding programme provides a supportive, cross-cultural environment, and emphasises the development of qualities such as social skills, self-management, ethical values, leadership, and spirituality. The dedicated team of dormitory parents and assistants help create a dynamic family environment, where students can find brothers and sisters who help them grow during their time at Townshend and become life-long friends.

Townshend offers a diverse range of co-curricular activities, and provides a holistic and balanced education through which students develop various skills, participate in sports, pursue artistic and creative interests, gain service experience, and engage in personal development. The school’s extracurricular programme encourages regular participation in activities, allowing students to gain experience in new areas, adding balance to their lives, and broadening their horizons.

At Townshend, all teachers, dormitory staff and administrators believe that each student has the potential to make a positive impact in the world. Their core aim is to help students discover this potential by developing academic and artistic skills, a good character, confidence in their abilities, and the desire to make a difference.

Recent graduates have attended top universities around the world, such as Oxford, Harvard, Caltech, Berklee, Edinburgh, and LSE; and many go on to achieve further recognition, from receiving Human Rights awards to writing Platinum Records - whilst making a positive impact in their career fields and communities along the way.

What advice would you give to future applicants before applying to schools and why?

Understand the school’s ethos and ensure it aligns with your goals. I would further advise students to prioritise their English language studies in preparation for the entrance testing phase.

When looking at applicants, we consider not only the academic record and entrance exam performance, but also students who not only excel academically but also demonstrate character and potential for growth.

Primary School

  • Age - from 4 to 10 years,
  • The term of study is 6 years.

The program of the school stage of the Primary School includes training in kindergarten and primary classes.

The first years of school are the most important in the lives of children. The process of adaptation in a new environment for them is comfortable and unobtrusive: teachers surround each pupil with care and attention every day, sensitively guiding him on the educational path.

The curriculum is based on the structure of the step-by-step development of important skills in children's lives: self-care, communication with peers and adults, health and safety, reading and writing, counting and exploring the world around them. The goal of preschool and primary school education is to meet the needs of the child not only intellectually, but also physically, socially and emotionally.

Classes are held in a game format, which helps to keep the attention of a young student, maintaining his interest in learning. Modern classrooms with a variety of interactive technologies, outdoor playgrounds, music and creative studios allow students to explore the world around them, get acquainted with different spheres of life, and gain new experiences.

A wide range of subjects will be studied over three years: they include natural sciences and humanities, arts, languages and physical education. The learning process is based on discussions and practical exercises, excursions and experiments - all this contributes to students' enthusiasm for learning, expressing their ideas and implementing them.

Students of all grades work under the guidance of experienced, loving teachers. Small classes give teachers the opportunity to pay individual attention to each of the pupils, noting the positive aspects of their academic work in time and eliminating shortcomings.

At this stage, additional ESL English courses are available to foreign students that will help them improve their language skills and successfully complete the general academic program.

2-3 students share a bedroom, which are equipped with their own bathrooms (which include showers) and amenities such as desks, boards, and furniture. Each dormitory has laundry facilities, a study room, bike/sports room, prayer/meditation room, and a common area with a kitchen, television, board games and musical instruments. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided every day, and are included in the fee for boarding students.
