Saint John's High School (SJHS) is one of the few privileged schools in North America, preserving history and tradition since 1819. This institution teaches students in grades 9-12.

Saint John's High School was originally opened as a gymnasium for girls called the Victoria Building. After a severe fire that burned the entire building, the school was rebuilt and reopened under its current name in 1897, accepting children of both sexes for education. After the new building appeared, the management decided to introduce a new system of education, which required strong changes. So it has now appeared. St. John's High School.

SJHS is the only English school offering International Baccalaureate (IB) preparation courses in the province.

Grades 9 and 10

The program of two classes contains eight compulsory courses, including English, mathematics, one of the sciences to choose from, fine arts and other disciplines. Students also have the opportunity to add about ten additional subjects (including IB courses), as they will need 18 credits to successfully transfer to grade 11.

Grade 11

  • Age – from 16 years
  • The training period is 1 year.

Students of the 11th grade will study the basic disciplines: mathematics, English, history, science and art. In each of these areas, you can choose a narrow specialization: for example, in art - music or drawing, in the sciences - biology, chemistry or information technology. In addition, there are IB courses to choose from.

Grade 12

  • Age – from 17 years
  • The training period is 1 year.

Students in the final grade must study eight compulsory courses, at least 10 additional disciplines and choose IB directions for exams. Completion of the training will be the scored 18 credits.

Accommodation, meals, prices

Saint John's High School operates as a day facility and does not provide a place to live. Students must have a place of residence in the county, as well as be under the care of a local resident to get into the school.

Activities Saint John's High School

The school has created a large number of leisure clubs: sports, environmental, religious, creative. The most actively visited areas of extracurricular activities are sports and a theater group. SJHS sports teams in such sports as:

Facilities and equipment at Saint John's High School

The school's campus is located in the city center, the view from the educational buildings overlooks the harbor of St. John, part of the shopping centers and walking areas. In spring and autumn, the harbor is filled with cruise ships, which students can watch during breaks between classes.

SJHS has a rich infrastructure:

  • A media center accessible to students of all grades and offering many opportunities: from video editing and photo editing to graphic design and journalism,

  • The art studio is one of the largest rooms on campus: high windows overlooking the harbor, large easels and a variety of drawing tools,
  • Two laboratories where students study physics and chemistry.

The school has modern equipment in all classrooms: computers, video and audio installations, projectors and interactive whiteboards, security systems and much more.

Admission dates and extra charges

The school year begins in September and lasts for 9-10 months depending on the class. Classes are held in the first half of the day, between them there are breaks of 10 minutes. After classes, sports or creative activities are organized.

Admission to SJHS:

  • Fill out an application on the official website or face-to-face on campus,
  • Apply for Canadian citizenship, immigration status or student visa,
  • Find accommodations in the Southern School District of New Brunswick,
  • Receive an official letter of acceptance by paying a registration fee of $250,
  • Find out the date of the meeting with the student coordinator,
  • Pay for the first year of study before enrolling in school.

The IB Diploma, for which students are diligently preparing, allows students to enter many leading institutions of higher education that provide high-quality British programs.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Only students who reside permanently or temporarily in the district "owned" by the institution may enter the school. If the future student lives without parents, he must be under the supervision of a legal guardian and have health insurance.

For admission you will need:

  • Passport, student visa, health insurance and immunization card,
  • A copy of the transcript/report card in English,
  • An application form signed by the guardian,
  • The registration fee is $250.

Admission is carried out if there is a free place, so it is better to submit an application in advance. Students will be assigned to classes based on their level of English, age and previous education.

Scholarships Saint John's High School

Scholarships of the school's partners provide students with payments from $ 250 to $ 100,000 annually or one-time based on success in sports, research.

Intra-school scholarships are memorial awards for academic and extracurricular achievements, as well as on the basis of social criteria. The amount of payments is about $ 1500 annually.
