Description of The Royal Cavan School

  • Location: Cavan, Ireland
  • Students ages: 13 to 18 years
  • Programs: High School Program
  • Language of instruction: English
  • Duration of the course: semester, trimester or academic year (optional), from September to May.

The Royal School Cavan School is located in the homonymous small town in the north of Ireland, near the state borders, the distance to Dublin is about 100 kilometers. This is a quiet region where students will not be distracted from persistent and thoughtful studies.

It is common practice for both boys and girls to study there, and the school remains faithful to Christian traditions and commandments (the official religion is Protestantism). The school accepts a uniform (it is paid separately) - exact lists are given to new students long before the beginning of classes so that they can prepare and buy everything necessary.

In recent years, Royal School Cavan has been actively working with foreign students and is accepting children from all over the world: especially many students come from Spain and Germany. Many students choose a one-year educational program, but there are also those who prefer to complete a basic secondary education course and receive a valuable Leaving Certificate (note that all exam fees are paid separately and not included in the cost of the programs). Students of 16 years usually choose the program Transition Year, students 16-17 years old - the program of the senior classes, and pupils of 17-18 years prefer to pass a course Sixth Form and to receive Leaving Certificate for studying in higher educational institutions.

The purpose of the High School Program is to enable children of different nationalities and backgrounds to receive a quality education, to teach them to perceive a different point of view and someone else's opinion, to cultivate tolerance and respect for others. Students become more friendly and tolerant, better understand intercultural processes throughout the world and are ready for life in the modern international community. The program is selective: for admission to the course the child must demonstrate a sufficiently high level of knowledge, independence and perseverance in order to meet the high standards of the Royal School Cavan. Lessons are usually held in the morning, from 8:55 to 16:05, additional lessons last until 5:30 pm (breaks are provided). Children are engaged on weekdays (from Monday to Friday), 1 lesson lasts 45-50 minutes.

Behavior of the student is watched by the host family, as well as his local curator, school teachers and educators.

The high school program (or Senior Cycle) is aimed at completing the secondary education cycle, consolidating knowledge of the main subjects and obtaining a graduate diploma of the Leaving Certificate, which gives the right to continue education in the university. High school students study at least 5 subjects (usually students choose 7 or more): basic and practically mandatory are mathematics and English. The other directions and specializations are chosen from a fairly wide list:

  • Art
  • Foreign languages: for example, French
