In the west of Germany in Aachen (the land of North Rhine-Westphalia) is a non-profit public higher educational institution -Rain-Westphalian Technical University Aachen, which is a full member of the Association of the largest technical universities in the country. In addition to Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (abbreviation - RWTH), this association includes eight more institutions of higher education. The University is based on the Royal Technical Academy in 1865.

Initially, RWTH only taught students engineering and mining. That is why - engineering education, along with engineering are the strongest areas of education in this university. Over the years of existence, the list of priority areas has been supplemented by the study of natural sciences and medicine. The academic rating of teaching these disciplines in the university takes a middle position, since the priority belongs to technical areas.

The most famous inventions developed within the walls of the university laboratories are:

Famous students and teachers of Aachen University

For several centuries RWTH was known for a high level of teaching and educationof highly qualified engineers. At different times, the walls of this university left such outstanding figures:

  • Schlegel Hans Wilhelm. Received a master's degree at the university. A famous physicist and astronaut who took part in research on the international space station Mir together with Russian cosmonauts, was awarded such awards as the Order of Merit for the FRG and the Order of Friendship.
  • Professor Otto Adolf Ludwig Ince taught engineering at the university since 1870. He became famous as a design engineer, engaged in the design of the railroad Riga - Dinaburg.

Facilities and equipment at Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen

The RWTH campus is located directly within the city limits of Aachen (in the northern part of the city). It includes: the main building, built in the XIX century in Art Nouveau style, a modern educational building, libraries, dormitories, canteens, coffee houses.

In addition to the hostels on the campus, there are additional campuses located outside the campus. In all there are twenty-two.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

To apply for a bachelor's degree, a Russian entrant must have not only a certificate of secondary education, but also a document that confirms studies for two years in one of the higher educational institutions. As an option - for foreign applicants in Germany, there is an opportunity to undergo education in Studiocencloped for one year, which will be equivalent to two years of study in other universities. An exception is the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, where you can apply immediately after graduation. TestAS is also required. And in order to get an education in master's programs, you must provide a bachelor's degree at admission. All documents submitted to the admissions office must be translated into German and notarized.

Admission to the university is based on academic achievements. For foreign applicants, the average score should be at least 2.5 points (4 on a five-point system).

Also for applicants from abroad, without fail, a language test is provided. The basic teaching of the undergraduate and graduate programs is in German, but there are several courses for the Master's program in English. For admission, you need to pass DSH 2/3 or Test DaF tests with a result of at least 4 for knowledge of the German language and IELTS with a score of 6 for knowledge of English.

The applicative package of documents for admission must include a motivation letter in German. In the motivation letter, the applicant must argue the reasons for which he seeks to receive instruction in this institution, as well as motives for choosing a specialty.

When applying to the University of Aachen, gender identity and religious views are not taken into account. Apply for admission may be both residents of the country, and applicants from other states. The exact dates for receiving documents are posted on the official website of the educational institution. Usually, the deadline for submission of documents for the winter semester is July 15, and for the summer semester, January 15. But these dates need to be clarified, since changes are possible. For Russian applicants who plan to enroll after receiving a certificate of secondary education, documents must be submitted before January 18.

Tuition fee at Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen

Education at a rate of € 300 per month. In the second semester of the last year of study, students can apply for a scholarship of € 500. Like most foreign universities, the university cooperates with independent scholarships (DAAD, Erasmus, IDEA League). It is worth noting that some of them provide scholarships only in exceptional cases. For example, the Henry Ford Foundation grants a scholarship of € 300 a month to only girls undergoing education at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The purpose of granting the scholarship by this foundation is to support women in the technical sciences.
