Description of Sidcot School

  • Director: Jan Kilpetrick;
  • Students age: 3 to 18 years;
  • Type of study: joint;
  • Total number of students: 511 people (139 on the full board), of them boys - 290, girls - 211.

Sidcot School was founded in 1699 - it is one of the oldest, most prestigious and rating schools in the UK. Most of the school's students are British nationals, a small part are foreign students: a total of about 500 children are trained there.

The campus is located in a picturesque, quiet suburb near the developed cities of Bath and Bristol; it adjoins the small cozy village of Winscombe, 13 kilometers from the coastal city of Weston-Super-Mare.

Sidcot School is proud of the successes of its students, especially the fact that after studying here foreign students are not inferior to the British in academic and linguistic terms. Graduates successfully enter the selected universities all over the world, even in the most prestigious and rating ones. Students have the opportunity to practice or internship in the process of training, to gain valuable practical experience and establish useful business ties.

The educational process is divided into several stages:

  • Junior school = 9-11 years;
  • Senior classes = 11-16 years (Senior School, GCSE program);
  • Sixth Form = 16-18 years, program IB or A-level, preparation for entering the university.

Sidcot School is a valid and active member of many prestigious educational organizations:

  • Association of Boarding Schools;
  • Association of School Principals;
  • International Baccalaureate Organization;
  • Independent Information Service of the Board of Private Schools;
  • The Association of Private Schools;
  • The Society of Private School Principals.

Students with learning difficulties are also admitted to training: for example, even children with dyslexia can study English here.

International students can enroll in the school starting from the age of 9, and choose different programs (duration from 3 months). Small training groups (12-18 people) and a personal tutor help to implement a personal approach, give each student a maximum of attention, track progress and achievements. You can always ask for advice or recommendations, get individual advice - this is actively used by graduates who need help in choosing a university, in admission and determining the direction of career growth.

For international students, classes at the School of Academic English will be very useful - this is a supporting English language course for those students who are not native speakers; Also here you can take an intensive English course, basic training on the GCSE program. Half of the lessons are focused on the development of general language skills, half - on the assimilation of materials under the GCSE program: this helps students to prepare qualitatively and effectively for training in the Sixth Form. In addition, there are cultural and leisure activities that help to understand the history, national characteristics of Great Britain. You can apply for the course in September, January or April of your choice. Each graduate of the course receives a corporate certificate of international level, accepted in most educational institutions of the world.

And as a separate discipline, and as part of other courses taught ICT (information and computer technology). Educational buildings include more than 150 modern PCs, available to students for 8 hours daily; Each connected to the Internet, a local network, provides access to e-mail. Since 2013, the campus also has a special smart system: with its help, students can get their homework online, and teachers can also online monitor the accuracy of its implementation, monitor academic success.

Sidcot School supports the student exchange program between the schools of Germany and France: thanks to intensive language training (Spanish, German and French - can be studied at the progressive level of A-level or GCSE), students do not experience learning problems abroad.

Like other boarding houses, there is a strict ban on smoking, drinking alcohol and drugs, relations between pupils. Minor offenses lead to exclusion from school life and extracurricular activities (Saturday, at least 2 hours), and on Fridays educational and explanatory talks and meetings are held.

Until 19:00 every weekday, all students are required to wear a school uniform and uniforms are required when leaving the territory (on weekends or holidays).

Officially, the religion of Sidcot School - Quakers, but it is by no means inflicts, children of any religion can learn here.

What makes British schools so popular with families around the world?

There are many different schools in Britain: on the one hand, there are the oldest, traditional boarding schools, where world leaders, famous politicians, economists and scientists have been educated for hundreds of years. On the other hand, Britain today has some of the most modern independent schools and colleges you can find! This provides a wide range of choices for any parent - a school can be found that perfectly matches the individual needs and ambitions of the child. Combined with a unique British history and the fact that Britain is home to English - the world's language of science and business - this makes the UK one of the best options for studying abroad.
