Description of LAL Tavistock Language School

LAL Tavistock Language School is located in a quiet provincial British city near Plymouth. The area attracts tourists by beautiful rural spaces and proximity of two popular English coasts. LAL Tavistock School will be an excellent choice for anyone who wants to experience British provincial flavour, to improve their English skills, to make new friends and have a great vacation.

The language school is based on Kelly College. This educational institution used to be specialized. Here the sons of British naval officers studied. Today, everyone can study at the school. In July-August, the Kelly College campus hosts LAL language courses. In the summer school students get advanced courses and programs, interesting interactive lessons, an extensive entertainment program.

Summer English Course

Short information about a general English program with an emphasis on the development of communication skills.

A short vacation program (lasting from 1 week) involves studying English for at least 4 hours a day. At the lessons, students supplement their vocabulary, learn grammar, practice reading, writing, listening. Separate classes are reserved for conversational practice. Also the foreign students of the course learn communicative English at extra-curricular activities.

  • Student age: 8 to 15 years.
  • Requirements for admission: the level of English - from A1.
  • The result of the studying: improvement of language knowledge, development of communication skills in English-speaking environment.
  • Class size: 15 students.
  • Duration of the lesson: 45 minutes.

The cost of the program includes:

  • All necessary studying materials (manuals, textbooks, etc.);
  • Residence (school residence, rooms for 2-6 beds, shared shower);
  • Food;
  • Leisure activities, 2 excursions per week;
  • Transfer on arrival and before departure;
  • Insurance;
  • LAL certificate (issued on the basis of program results).

Additional activities includes 3 lessons in the following directions:

  • Climbing on ropes;
  • Climbing;
  • Archery;
  • Kayaking;
  • Canoeing, etc.

It is also possible to organize riding on horses and other sports.

Summer school for children from 11 to 17 years old with an English level from A1. These are English lessons + various on-line activities for children.

Perhaps the full version of the program (from Mon to Fri, 15 hours of classes per week) or the light version (classes 2 days a week for 2 hours).

On-line activities for children: See the World, Street View Scavengers, Geek Challenge, Selfie World, Brain Food, LAL Physical, etc.

Accommodation, meals, prices

Students are offered accommodation in the residence on the Kelly College campus. Students live in 2 - 4-bed rooms, use shared bathrooms (1 for 4 - 6 people). There are also recreation rooms, gambling halls, a living room in the residence.

Summer school students get board meals. In the dining room of the school hot breakfasts, lunches, dinners are served and lunches are given out on excursion days.

Subjects and sports

Activities LAL Tavistock Language School

The school offers an extensive entertainment program, including sports, cultural events and excursions.

As directions and routes for excursions, students are offered:

  • Eden, an ecological complex that has no analogues in Europe: a botanical garden, a museum and an amusement park.
  • Brean Park. Here, more than three dozen attractions are waiting for children and teenagers. Karting, bowling, and many other entertainments are also available.
  • Lidford gorge with the famous 30-meter waterfall "White Lady" and several swirls.
  • The cities of Okhempton and Exeter, where each street resembles the chapter of the historical book.
  • The Port City of Plymouth.
  • The Woodlands Theme Park with many entertainment zones for visitors of all ages.
  • Paignton Zoo with a collection of 2000 animals and over 1600 plants.

Daily routine

Lessons are held during morning hours from Monday to Friday. After 12:30, students are offered day activities (sports, entertainment, excursions). At 19:00 the evening program begins with a show of talents, discos, etc.

Facilities and equipment at LAL Tavistock Language School

LAL Tavistock Language School is located in the educational building of Kelly College, that is dated 1877. Inside it has quit modern decoration. The school has small lecture rooms (classrooms), there is a language lab, a library, a computer center. For relaxation there is a living room with soft furniture and TV. Sports infrastructure is represented by an athletic hall, tennis and squash courts, a dance class, a swimming pool, an open complex with a variety of different shells.
