The International School of Management provides an ideal foundation for professional success after graduation. ISM's applied education inspires students to take on managerial responsibility in a global business environment. Thanks to one of the largest partner networks of universities (consisting of about 190 universities), you can start learning your dream in one of the most dynamically developing economic regions of Europe.

Educational process

The university specializes in degree programs in business analytics and international management. The university offers bachelor's and master's programs with full-time and part-time forms of study.

ISM students develop language and intercultural skills through intensive foreign language training, study abroad at one of ISM's 190 partner universities, internships – graduates gain practical experience outside of Germany during a 10-week internship abroad.

Participants in the Master's programme spend the third semester at an ISM partner university either in Europe or abroad. The integrated 12-week practical phase can also take place outside Germany if the student so wishes. Participants of the ISM Master's programs have the opportunity to obtain an international double degree.

The study programs "B.Sc International Management, Bachelor of Science", "Finance and Management" (on campuses in Frankfurt, Cologne and Berlin), as well as a Bachelor of Science degree "Information Systems" (on campuses Dortmund, Munich and Hamburg) can be studied 100% in English. In German-language programs, approximately 30% of lectures are conducted in English, especially in the senior semesters. To study these programs, you need at least a level of German proficiency B2.

Faculties and colleges

ISM has seven campuses in Dortmund, Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Hamburg, Cologne, Stuttgart and Berlin.

Scientific achievements

ISM conducts research and development in various academic fields: qualitative, practical and comprehensive training is based on theoretical ideas, supplemented by knowledge gained as a result of applied research. Participation in research projects teaches and encourages students to put their theoretical knowledge into practice. After graduation, they organize tasks faster and more efficiently independently than graduates of other universities. ISM scholars, students, and partners benefit from scholarly discourse.

Since 2011, ISM has been actively involved in the related research of the innovative city of Ruhr.

Things to know about

Hamburg has become an economic and cultural center thanks to Germany's largest seaport. It has connections with the whole world, and the logistics sector is one of the leading industries in Hamburg (along with the media and information industry, medicine and biotechnology).

Enrolment process

Admission process for undergraduate studies

  • In the admission process, those applicants who are best suited to study at ISM due to their abilities, motivation and personality traits are selected.
  • The admission process takes place in one day and is divided into two parts: written assessments of academic performance in mathematics and English (online via Skype), a personal interview (online via Skype).
  • The assessment includes a test in mathematics and English. Undergraduate programs taught in English do not require prior knowledge of German, so there is no need for a test or a preliminary course.
  • Foreign applicants who cannot confirm the B2 level in German must take German as a second foreign language. All other applicants must choose between French and Spanish. If they already have skills in one of these languages, they will also be tested.
  • The in-person interview takes place as a classic job interview and explores the main personality traits. The interview includes questions about your career, professional and personal goals, and the reasons for your motivation to study.

If you have completed preparatory training, you can use the services of a third-party certified provider or take intensive preparatory courses ISM (English and Mathematics). The preparatory course of mathematics includes the solution of equations and systems of equations, differential and integral calculus. Cost of preparatory courses:

  • English – 360€,
  • Mathematics – 270€.

Certificates must be provided in writing (number of lessons, teacher, period, student) no later than the day of enrollment.

The process of admission to master's courses

The admission process consists of a case study and an interview. Applicants present the results of the case study in an oral presentation on the day of the entrance test.

After online registration, applicants receive a list of questions, they prepare answers to questions in the form of a presentation and written work for the interview day. Answers should be sent by e-mail at least 48 hours before the interview so that the admissions committee can evaluate them (otherwise applicants are not allowed to participate in the selection procedure).

The purpose of the interview is to study the qualities of the applicant's character. The content includes information about career, professional, personal goals and motivation to study + discussion of the results of the case study during the interview.

MBA Admission Process

The admission process consists of a case study and an interview. Applicants will present the results of the case study in an oral presentation on the day of the entrance test. After online registration, applicants will receive questions that they must submit in the form of a presentation and written development by the day of the interview. The results of the case study should be sent by e-mail at least 48 hours before the interview.

The personal interview is conducted in English. The aim is, among other things, to assess the applicant's motivation and suitability.

Upon successful completion of the entrance test, students will receive a letter of acceptance: they will have 10 working days to accept the offer, sign the letter of acceptance and make a deposit.
