Glenstal Abbey Summer Camp is a summer camp program hosted by one of Ireland's renowned residential schools.

The camp caters to students aged 11 to 17, offering them the opportunity to enhance their English language skills, immerse themselves in Ireland's natural beauty and attractions, explore its culture, and forge new friendships during the summer break. Throughout their stay at Glenstal Abbey, students receive guidance from qualified teachers, each holding at least a bachelor's degree and additional qualifications to teach English in accordance with ACELS standards.

The university campus provides an ideal setting for students to have an unforgettable experience while residing in one of the most stunning countries in the world. With modern facilities and amenities, a diverse range of extracurricular activities, opportunities for travel, a caring and dedicated staff, and an engaging curriculum, the school has created an optimal environment for spending summer holidays.

Educational process

  • All students take an English proficiency test on the first day to be assigned to classes,
  • To monitor the child's progress, employees conduct weekly simple tests. If a student makes rapid progress, they are promoted to the next language level.
  • Approximately 40% of students come individually, the rest in pre-organized groups. For afternoon activities, children will be gathered together and separated by age to create a comfortable atmosphere for interaction,
  • The curriculum is designed for different language levels: from A1 to C1. The programs are suitable for both beginners and advanced learners.

Classic English Program

  • Age — from 11 to 17 years old,
  • The duration of the training is two, three or four weeks.

A specially designed program for students aged 11-17 will help students develop not only their knowledge of the English language, but also build self-confidence, improve communication skills and broaden their horizons through travel and communication with representatives of different nationalities.

The weekly curriculum includes 15 hours of English lessons on weekdays, on-campus activities afterward, and tourist trips every weekend.

Academic classes focus on honing skills that are important in linguistics: pronunciation, reading and writing, and listening. Thanks to small classes and qualified teachers, children effectively learn the curriculum and quickly improve their language level.

Accommodation, meals, prices

Living quarters are located on the school grounds, ensuring safety, convenience and a relaxing time for students. The rooms are designed for several students - from 2 to 8 children of the same age and gender, but from different countries, can live in one room.  Toilets and showers are located next to the rooms and are shared by students of the same sex. A laundry service is available for children – laundry once a week is already included in the price. 

At Glenstal Abbey, food is one of the highlights of the day, as representatives from all study groups gather in the dining room. The cafeteria staff provides hot meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as evening snacks.  High-quality dishes are prepared with locally produced products and are offered in a wide variety: salads, pasta, meat and fish, various desserts, sandwiches and much more. Professional chefs are ready to meet the special dietary requirements, medical restrictions of the pupils, providing them with an alternative meal plan. 

Upon arrival at campus, each student receives an eco-friendly, reusable water bottle that can be refilled at any time using the building's many water stations. 

Activities Glenstal Abbey Summer Camp

The weekdays of the participants of the summer programs consist not only of English lessons - the staff understands the importance of rest during the holidays and tries to brighten up every free hour from classes. On campus, children regularly organize collective events: master classes, themed parties, cooking classes, intellectual and sports games. Outside the study area, students spend two to three days a week participating in tourist trips to the sights of Ireland: the Cliffs of Moher, the Dingle Peninsula, the city of Galway, the center of Dublin and other iconic places students will have time to see during their stay at school.

Children can enjoy the attractions of the region while living in a comfortable residence, using the school's services and traveling with the class.  This place is ideal for spending your summer holidays due to its safety, close proximity to interesting tourist places and small towns.

The Glenstal Abbey campus has state-of-the-art facilities for academics, extracurricular activities and recreation. Living quarters, a large dining hall, art studios, a sports center and ennobled outdoor areas allow students not only to gain quality knowledge and develop life skills, but also to have fun.

Admission dates and extra charges

Summer programs have three types of duration: two, three, or four weeks on campus. Arrival and departure of students are organized on Sundays. English classes take place in the morning, afternoon on weekdays, followed by activities and cultural trips. Living on campus, students do not leave it on their own, even on weekends.

The school offers a variety of services on an all-inclusive basis – there are no additional fees at the summer camp:

  • Transfer to/from the airport, meeting new students and accompaniment. It will only require payment if the new student arrives at night,
  • Academic classes Monday to Friday from 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.,
  • All on-campus activities and off-campus excursions,
  • Accommodation and meals,
  • Introductory, periodic and final language tests,
  • Pastoral care around the clock.

The only things you may need money for are souvenirs and personal purchases on trips. Usually, students take no more than 100€ per week.

Enrolment process

The procedure for admission to summer programs is quite simple and consists of going through several stages:

  • Filling out an online application, attaching the required documents to it,
  • Receiving a response from the school staff with an official letter of invitation that will help in applying for a visa,
  • Making a deposit to reserve a seat,

Upon arrival, the employee will wait for the child at the airport with a sign, ensure a safe way to the area: the employee has the mobile phone numbers of the parents and the child, the number of the driver of the private bus and the emergency service in case of any delay. Upon arrival at the campus, students are escorted to their rooms and given a welcome tour of the school, and then new students will be tested and receive useful information about the day's schedule, study sessions. The next morning, students will be escorted to classes at their appropriate level.

Perspectives

At the end of the education, the pupil will receive a certificate of progress and attendance, a detailed academic report and recommendations from teachers. These documents will help the student to prove the quality of the knowledge gained when entering English-speaking institutions.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

The summer camp accepts children from 11 to 17 years old, however, if the child turns 18 before graduating from high school, the course is also available.

To study at Glenstal Abbey Summer Camp, parents of foreign candidates must provide their child's personal documents: birth certificate, passport, health insurance and vaccination certificates, visa or residence permit. They must be accompanied by the documents of one of the parents, proving his/her identity and connection with the child. All documentation must be translated into English and certified.
