Central School of Marseilles is a leading higher engineering institution located in the second largest city in France – Marseille.

The school was established in 2006 as a result of the merger of several higher education institutions. Central School of Marseilles is part of the central world colleges together with schools in Beijing, Paris, Lyon. It is multidisciplinary, but the vast majority of students undergo in-depth study of mathematics and physics for two to three years.

Throughout the history of its existence, the Central School of Marseilles has graduated more than 14,000 specialists, including the CEOs of ST-Ericsson, ST-Microelectronics.

Education can take place both in French and in English.

Engineering cycle

The key elements underlying Centrale Marseille's approach to teaching students in engineering are research, project management, and international activities.

This programme is designed for three years and includes three semesters of compulsory courses, a transitional semester dedicated to studying at international partner universities and two semesters dedicated to more advanced industry and professional topics, including a compulsory course, an optional course (six options available) and an engineering course (six specialist career options).

Accommodation, meals, prices

The school cooperates with the agency CROUS, which provides places in student dormitories. Students live in single rooms with an equipped washbasin. Showers, toilets, kitchen with appliances are shared and located on the floor. Upon arrival, each resident must bring bed linen and towels. Foreign students reside in the Cité Alice Chatenoud or Cité Claude Delorme buildings.

Payment for accommodation is monthly: each student pays about 135 € per month, and upon check-in - for three months of accommodation and 135 € additionally in the form of a refundable deposit. For stays of less than nine months, the room will cost 180 € per month.

There are five university restaurants in the city, where you can find dishes of different cuisines.

Activities Central School of Marseilles

Student life at the school consists in the activities of several large student clubs:

  • Association des Elèves de Centrale Marseille – organizers of many events, including weekends for freshmen, gala concerts. The club also deals with communication between students and administration.
  • The Sports Association is the organizer of sports competitions at inter-school tournaments. Members of the sports club in scuba diving, horseback riding, badminton, skiing and much more off campus.
  • International club for foreign students.
  • Association of sailing events, inter-school races.
  • An association of engineers working on aid and development projects abroad.
  • Club of culture and art, developing the talents of students in drawing, photography, music and dance, theatrical productions.

Facilities and equipment at Central School of Marseilles

Most of the campus is located at the foot of the Etoile massif, several academic buildings are located in Saint-Jérôme. The main campus covers an area of 5.7 hectares, but in the coming years it will be expanded by another 4 hectares. In the future, a new amphitheater, a sports center, student dormitories will be built here.

The campus is a 10-minute walk from the metro, with good access to bus routes. 

Admission dates and extra charges

There are several semesters in the academic year. Classes are held on weekdays in the morning, club gatherings and events - in the second. Vacations are established for those who complete the semester without "debts": winter, autumn and summer.

Additional monthly expenses:

On average, students spend about 700€ per month.

Upon arrival, the student will have to pay:

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

You can get to study at the Central School of Marseilles through entrance tests or by applying for exchange programs.
Without participating in these activities, the applicant will need fairly high scores from the previous place of study and spoken English or French.
