  • Year of foundation: 1860
  • Location: Birkenhead, England
  • Age of students: 3+
  • Number of students: 500+

An independent academically selective co-educational day school located in Oxton, in the North West of England. It offers programs for boys and girls from kindergarten to 18 years. At each stage, the school focuses on getting to know its students as fully as possible, developing their core values and providing a wide range of academic and career opportunities, nurturing resilient, ambitious and responsible young people.

The school uses a strict academic approach, which allows you to achieve excellent results, but at the same time pay tribute to the development of the child's personality and the formation of an educational environment that is comfortable, safe and inspiring, contributing to the development of curiosity and curiosity, abstract, critical thinking.

The school was opened on August 9, 1860. The initial enrollment was 18 boys, but very quickly their number increased to a hundred, which required a new building. In 1871, the institution moved to its present location. In 1883, the school acquired its own chapel, and in 1889 a preparatory department was opened. In 1899, the municipality leveled land along the street, allowing the opening of the school playing field and stadium.

In the 20s, the principal and board of trustees worked tirelessly for the benefit of the school, acquiring new lands and buildings. In 1922, among the acquisitions was the Fender Ground Stadium (in 1931 it was sold), in 1931 a junior school was opened, and in 1948 the institution received a donation of the McAllister Memorial Complex. In 1958, the ensemble of buildings was supplemented by a specially built scientific town.

In 1992, the school acquired a multifunctional sports center, and a few years earlier it acquired the director's house on Shrewsbury Road, which made it possible to concentrate in one hand all the buildings in the quarter, except for the Church of the Holy Spirit. Since 2006, a kindergarten has been opened, and in 2011 preparations began for the introduction of joint education of boys and girls (the beginning was laid in 2000, when Sixth Form became joint). By 2014, girls had been recruited to all levels of education, and they now make up 38 per cent of the student population.

Faculties and colleges

The school has a traditional System of Houses for British private schools. There are four faculties that bring together Prep and Seniors students; enrollment in the House takes place at the time of admission to school. Houses allow students from different age groups to get together, take part in various activities, are an important element of school life. Each house has its own colors and symbolism, all named after the streets in the vicinity of Oxton Village:

  • Shrewsbury
  • Bereford,
  • Kingsmaid,
  • Budston.

The House system places students in a competitive environment full of trials and adventures, cultivates a competitive spirit and leadership qualities, allows them to receive rewards for participation in various spheres of school life, encouraging participation, establishing social connections, activating extracurricular activities.

Among the school's alumni are two Fields Medal winners.
