Description of University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center

University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a small public non-profit institution of higher education with 250 students enrolled. First of all, it is an innovative clinical center for the fight against cancer and the search for new methods of treatment, early diagnosis and prevention of cancer. The educational institution is located in Houston (Texas, USA). It occupies 125th place in its country and 581th place in the world ranking.

At the root of the founding of the center-banker and businessman Monroe Anderson. He established a charitable foundation of $ 300,000. After the death of Monroe Anderson in 1939, the foundation received another $ 19,000,000. In 1941, the Texas legislature authorized the University of Texas to establish a statewide hospital for cancer research and treatment. The Anderson Foundation agreed to allocate the required amount for construction, if the hospital is built in Houston and is named after its benefactor. Immunologist Jim Ellison won the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 2018 for using a new effective method of treating cancer by activating the immune system to successfully attack tumor cells. Thus, the sick person’s own immune system is activated and sent to fight the disease. Jim Allison is the Executive Director of the Immunotherapy Platform at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
