Pre-sessional English courses are focused on helping international students gain admission to university. Depending on the existing knowledge, the student is offered a curriculum of 6-29 weeks of classes aimed at honing the basic skills: reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, speaking and listening comprehension, vocabulary. Classes are taught by native teachers in small groups, giving them the opportunity to pay attention to each student.

At the end of the course, the student achieves the required level of English proficiency on IELTS, thereby receiving a passing score on the admission criterion for bachelor's or master's degrees.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

All foreign candidates must have a full set of personal documents: passport, health insurance, visa or residence permit.

To enter higher education programs, foreign applicants need to take a preparatory course in order to translate their existing knowledge, adapt to the English education system, and improve their level of English proficiency. To enrol in the course, you will need a certificate of completion of upper secondary education, language test results with an IELTS level of 4.0 or equivalent.

Admission to bachelor's, master's, doctoral studies takes place upon submission of the following academic documents:

  • Preparatory Course Certificate / Bachelor's Degree in Related Specialty, Evaluation Certificates,
  • Language test results: IELTS (from 6.5), TOEFL iBT (from 88), PTE Academic (from 69) or equivalent,
  • Motivation letter describing the desire to enter the University of Reading, the achievements you have and the goals set.

Some areas may require a portfolio, specialized skills, or work experience.
