The University of La Laguna (ULL) is the oldest university in the Canary Islands with a history of 200 years. This educational institution was founded by a decree dating back to 1792, but in the current format the university has been operating since 1913.

About 20,000 students study at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs. The teaching staff includes about 2,000 highly qualified specialists.

Accommodation, meals, prices

The University provides accommodation in four residential campuses:

  • San Fernando
  • Colegio Mayor San Agustin
  • Santa Maria.

These buildings are located on the central campus of the university and near the Campus of Anchieta. Students live in individual or shared rooms with bathrooms. The building has TV-living rooms, libraries, halls for recreation and creativity, sports halls.

  • The Parque de las Islas University Residence is located in Camino las Mantecas near the Guajara Campus. Individual and group rooms with private bathrooms are prepared here; the building is equipped with a library, a sports hall, cafeterias and shops, halls for recreation and creativity.

The cost of living, including monthly fees and utilities, ranges from 266 to 663€.

The university is located on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Archipelago, with a population of about 888,000 inhabitants. ULL locates its campuses in the municipality of La Laguna and centers in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The central campus is located in the most modern part of the urban area of San Cristobal de la Laguna. It stands out the Central Building, designed in the 40s, which houses a noble hall for events. This building has housed the faculties of law, natural science, philosophy and literature for many years, but the growth in the number of students and the creation of new campuses have deprived it of academic activity, and now it houses administrative services:

The Guachar campus is the largest of all ULL campuses. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the urban area next to the northern TF-5 motorway. This campus houses the headquarters of the Library Service with a valuable old collection and:

  • Faculty of Fine Arts: preservation, restoration of cultural values, design, fine arts
  • All sections of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Communications: social, cultural anthropology, journalism, sociology, social work

The Offra campus is built around the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC). It accommodates:

The Santa Cruz Campus is a small campus where the:

  • Section of Maritime Transport, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Radio Electronics of the Higher Engineering Polytechnic School
  • Tenerife School of Tourism (subsidiary center)
  • Headquarters of the ULL Social Council.

The South Campus, located in Adeja in an annex to the Municipal Cultural Center, provides degrees in tourism.

Admission dates and extra charges

There are two semesters in the school year:

  • Autumn: September-January
  • Spring: February-May.

Exams are held in February, March, June-September.

Classes are held from Monday to Friday, on Saturdays trips, excursions, events are organized.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

You can apply for admission on the official website of the university by registering in your personal account.

For admission to the bachelor's degree, applicants will need:

  • Certificate of secondary education
  • Official transcript
  • GPA
  • ACT/SAT Standardized Test Results
  • TOEFL/IELTS certificate if the student is a foreigner (knowledge of English is not lower than level B1)
  • Registration fee.

Future masters should be provided with:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Registration fee
  • Transcript of courses taken
  • GRE/GMAT results

Applications are submitted in August-September. The deadline for accepting documents in the presence of weighty arguments about being late is October.
