UC Santa Barbara Summer is a summer international educational camp offering university preparation programs, including theory, practice, and research in the disciplines studied. The camp is ranked 5th in the US News & World Report rankings, known for its famous alumni, including Jack Johnson, Gwyneth Paltrow, etc. combining recreation and active study. UC Santa Barbara Summer offers 24 university preparation programs that work with an academic credit system, which are credited for admission to the university. The course price already includes 8 courses, for each additional charge is charged separately. Paid package standard for all programs include:

  • Accommodation in the residence of the camp (UC Santa Barbara Residence Hall)
  • Modern group classes to help to establish international contact

Enrichment Courses

Elective courses that can be taken separately or as part of the Pre-college Program, no credit points are given for passing.

Usually classes are held weekly, 4 times for 2 hours, most courses are accompanied by homework, tests with grades according to the AF scale. Upon graduation, students receive an extract with the results and a certificate (Certificate of Completion). Program offered:

UCS B Research Mentorship Program (RMP)

  • Age of students: 14-18
  • Dates: June 30-July 27, June 23-August 3
  • Duration: 4 weeks , 6 weeks.

Students of the RMP program, through close interaction with the mentor, study current research methods, get an idea of the possibility of professional research and the achievement of academic goals. 8 compulsory disciplines, 30-40 hours of study every week. High-school students from all over the world who have achieved high results are invited to a 6-week session to conduct studying at the university level, including work in equipped laboratories. Research areas are represented by the following disciplines:

UCSB Academies

  • Age of students: 14-18
  • Dates: June 30 - July 27
  • Duration: 4 weeks.

Academies programs offer intensive classes (morning and afternoon) in various fields. It is recommended to take two Academies courses, but if you wish, you can enroll in one Academies program and one other, for example, elective. Description of courses Academies programs:

Finance and Marketing

The participant gains knowledge about establishing their own business, planning finances, creating a marketing plan in accordance with modern market laws, investment principles, including activities on international stock exchanges, understanding the differences between the NYSE and NASDAQ. It focuses on creating integrated trading projects with the development of real market strategies using digital and traditional methods.

Global law

Studying the fundamentals of the legal system of the United States and foreign countries, discussing, interacting with legal professionals, exploring career opportunities, understanding the basics of criminal justice based on the experience of existing legal organizations.

Engineering and Robotics

An innovative program in which students at the command level learn to design, to create robots and catapults. This practical course is aimed at developing brainstorming skills, addressing issues related to electromechanics, choosing a concept, teamwork, studying the entire production process. Passing all the cycles: design, creation, debugging, testing a prototype of a catapult.

Contemporary medicine

The development of fundamental knowledge in the field of medicine based on the problem of studying the structure and operation of the brain - the phenomenon of memory, mental activity. The Contemporary Medicine course covers the topics of related sciences, such as biology, kinesiology, pharmacology, infectious diseases, cancer, and psychiatry.

Sports Plus Program

  • Age of students: 14-18
  • Dates: June-August
  • Duration: 2 weeks.

Along with the main academic or elective program for a fee, a student can take a sports course with an instructor:

  • Surfing 4 hours a week for two classes;
  • Fitness, unlimited number of classes on a subscription (gold card fitness).

Accommodation, meals, prices

Students are accommodated in their own UCSB's Santa Crus Hall residence in double rooms with a shared bathroom. The course price already includes:

  • Wi-Fi
  • Stay in rest and play rooms
  • Watching movies in your home theater
  • Pillow blanket
  • 3 meals a day on campus from Monday to Friday, 2 meals a day on weekends (portion size is not limited)
  • Daily cleaning in the room.

The paid package does not include bed linen, laundry services, meals outside the campus, personal expenses. After classes, students can make independent walks in groups in places permitted by the administration, the so-called home area zones.

The local dining menu includes vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals.

Activities UC Santa Barbara summer academic camp

The maximum amount of entertainment and excursions provided by participants of 6-week programs UC Santa Barbara Summer, all of which are included in the price. Students at the 4-week and RMP courses have access to a limited set of activities, for example, a trip to Los Angeles is paid extra. The main list of trips, excursions and activities off-campus:

Facilities and equipment at UC Santa Barbara summer academic camp

Camp UC Santa Barbara Summer is located 2 hours from Los Angeles and has its own comfortable beach on the Pacific coast. On campus there is a canteen, the Harder Stadium, 6 tennis courts, beach volleyball courts, a sports and entertainment center equipped with equipment for various sports:

  • Halls for basketball, gymnastics, racquetball, squash, cardio workouts

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

The students of 14-18 years old, including from abroad can become a member of the UC Santa Barbara Summer educational camp. One of the mandatory requirements of the Pre-college program is good GPA exam results:

  • 2 UCSB College Credit Courses - 3.3
  • 1 UCSB College Credit Course + 1 elective course - 3.15
  • For Academies - 2.75.

Camp rules clearly regulate the time of arrival and departure: if a student arrived earlier, he will have to stay in a hotel or hostel. Date of departure coincides with the last paid day of the course.

Recommendations on when to apply

- some schools have a specific time frame (September-November - please specify an individual school)
- some schools require tests in several stages (UKISET, internal tests of the school: English, mathematics, logics, subjects, interview, some require a personal visit)

- for Foundation and Pathway programs, IELTS and TOEFL certificates are usually required, respectively

- the deadline normally closes in January, for TOP HEIs and, as a rule, in March in other universities
