Founded in 1979, Home Language International has been offering 20-language family education language programs in more than 30 countries for over 40 years.

Students live and study in the teacher’s house, attend individual language lessons, eat, walk and spend leisure time with their family, continuing to use the language throughout their stay.

Classic language program

The Classic program completely immerses students in the target language, culture. Participants are provided with full board accommodation, individual Swedish lessons, free time outside of classes and lunch, so that students can independently learn the language or communicate with the host family, take part in their daily life.

Language Program with Activities

Language Program with Activities offers a unique opportunity to put language skills into practice. Activities include visiting local attractions, national parks, shopping, cooking traditional dishes, afternoon tea, bowling, minigolf, swimming, board games. The specific content depends on the location of the family, local events, personal interests of students.

The program includes:

  • Full board in the teacher’s house
  • 10-25 hours of individual language lessons per week
  • 5-20 hours of activity, including the cost of entrance tickets, travel.

Language Program with Cultural Excursions

Language Program with Cultural Excursions combines a language course, travel, sightseeing, learning the customs of Sweden. The cultural program includes 3 visits with a teacher, any adult family member. The choice of places depends on the location of the family, the personal preferences of the student, tours are conducted in Swedish, so participants continue to study all the time they stay.

The course includes:

  • Full board in the teacher’s house
  • 10-25 hours of individual language lessons per week
  • 3 cultural visits, including transportation costs, entrance fees for the student and accompanying person.

Host families range from traditional - with two adults and one or more children - to single parent families, young couples without children, mature couples and people who live alone.

Advantages

  • Full immersion is the main HLI home teaching method; the only student will be able to speak Swedish before, during and after lessons.
  • Teachers of Home Language International have higher education, teaching experience of at least 2 years and / or pedagogical qualifications (Tefl, Tesol, Celta, PGCE)
  • Participants can choose 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 hours of individual lessons per week. The lessons are completely personalized, an experienced teacher will focus on what the student needs.

Courses are held year-round, participants can book training at any convenient time (any Sunday), choose the duration of the course (minimum - 1 week).

- we recommend to apply 6-9 months before the start of the course (some camps and schools offer discounts for early booking or for lengthy study programs)
- there are some very popular and high demand children's camps, where the applications need to be submitted 1 year in advance (in particular Switzerland , Great Britain , USA , Canada , Austria)
- we recommend to apply one year before the start of the training program,
- some schools have a specific time frame (September-November - please specify an individual school)
- some schools require tests in several stages (UKISET, internal tests of the school: English, mathematics, logics, subjects, interview, some require a personal visit)
- we recommend to apply one year before the start of the program,
- for Foundation and Pathway programs, IELTS and TOEFL certificates are usually required, respectively

- recommended submission one year before the start of the program,
- the deadline normally closes in January, for TOP HEIs and, as a rule, in March in other universities
- for a bachelor, a Foundation or Pathway preparatory program a completed A-level, IB, High School + IELTS / TOEFL are required
- for Masters you need a graduated higher education, in some cases you need a pre-Masters program
- MBA requires completed higher education, work experience preferably at least 2-3 years, etc.
