Description of Stonyhurst College

Stonyhurst College is a well-known boarding school for children from 3 to 18 years old (also available in full-time form). It is located near the small village of Hurst Green in Lancashire County: up to Preston can be reached in 30 minutes, and to Manchester International Airport in 50 minutes by transport.

Stonyhurst College has a rather entertaining and difficult story. Originally it was founded in Spain in 1593 (then the Catholic education for boys in England was banned), changed its location many times and settled on the present territory only in 1794. The campus manages to combine modern technical equipment and the charming spirit of antiquity: ancient majestic buildings are architectural and historical monuments of national importance, united in a single beautiful ensemble, surrounded by well-kept gardens and parks. The total area of the territory is huge - more than 1000 hectares! - there are sports and administrative facilities, educational buildings and residences. The school is divided into two sections:

  • St Mary's Hall - 3-13 years
  • The average age is 13 to 18.

Stonyhurst College prides itself on supporting and carefully preserves educational traditions for over 400 years and at the same time keeps pace with the times, introducing modern technologies and authoring techniques into the learning process. Here, children from all over the world can get a high-quality modern education and real pastoral care, enjoy the level of comfort during their stay and study, and develop their own talents and abilities during out-of-class, sporting and creative pursuits.

By right Stonyhurst College is proud of both its teaching staff and employees - all of them are qualified, experienced professionals who have been working with foreign students and international groups for several years. The quality of education is clearly reflected in the statistics of graduates: every year an overwhelming majority without problems enters the selected universities, even such prestigious and advanced ones as Oxford and Cambridge.

The high school (Sixth Form) here is called the Higher Line and is divided into two years: Poetry and Rhetoric. High school students have a great level of freedom and independence, but they have a great responsibility: they occupy leading positions, help in organizing the educational process and activities, help the younger students.

Each high school student attends the two-year course Theology General: this is a relatively non-standard program. Various moral and social issues are being studied: the system of prisons in the world, the protection and control of refugees and others.

Foreign students can count on full-fledged language support on the EAL course: these are English classes designed to fully develop common skills and to effectively prepare for a selected language test or exam. Also, if necessary, you can attend additional lessons on academic subjects.
