Red Deer College was founded in 1964. The initial goal is to provide rural youth with access to education. Today, the college is the third largest in the province, where about 8,000 students study in 75 specialties. An educational institution has the right to assign a bachelor's degree, to study under the Diploma and Certificate programs.
In 2018, the college applied to the Ministry of Education for the status of a higher education institution, which was approved. A plan was outlined, thanks to which within 3 years Red Deer College will become a university.
