Peking University (北京大å¦, B Ä› ij Ä« ng D à xu é ), also known as "Beida" 北大 - was founded in 1898. Today, it's the largest and oldest university in China.
Today, Peking University is the most important higher educational institution in China. Its structure includes 30 colleges and 12 faculties. There are 93 Bachelor's, 199 Master's and 173 Doctoral specialties. The university has 216 research institutes, two engineering scientific centers have the status of nationwide ones. In the local library there are more than 8.000.000 books and 10.000 titles of Chinese and foreign magazines. The total area of ​​book storages and reading rooms is more than 50.000 square meters - this is the largest library in Asia.
