Description of Lycée Louis Querbes Public School

This is a French international school: students from any country in the world can enroll from the age of 14 and older. The institution is located in Rodez: it is quite an old city with a lot of historical monuments and attractions, with a high standard of living and a population of 45,000 people.

Lycée Louis Querbes operates as a high school college (10-12), with a total of 700 students. Foreign students study together with French schoolchildren: such an international atmosphere helps to quickly master the French language, quickly progress in the training sessions, more fully and deeply absorb the curriculum.

The list of subjects may vary depending on the chosen level of instruction (from the class), but the basic, fundamental disciplines are generally the same:

  • Mathematics;
  • French;
  • Physics;
  • The first foreign language (usually English);
  • The second foreign language (often Spanish or German);
  • Art;
  • Biology;
  • Geography;
  • Sport and physical culture;
  • History.

The schoolchildren are brought up valuable social and personal qualities, they become more stubborn, attentive, inquisitive. Lycée Louis Querbes teachers are trying to educate a full-fledged personality, an active citizen of the modern world, a member of the international community - for this purpose a large number of general global projects, works and researches are provided, during which students from different countries work together.

The main emphasis in teaching is done in the lessons of the French language, the exact and technical sciences. For foreign students, the assistance and support of a special employee and consul is provided, and NACEL headquarters are located nearby.

Also Lycée Louis Querbes does not work on public holidays and on vacation. Classes begin at 8 a.m. and end at 5-6 p.m., there is a one hour lunch break and short breaks between lessons. Some classes are provided on the mornings of Saturday or Wednesday.

Doing sports is not strictly a mandatory item of the educational program. In general, students prefer to study on Saturday or Wednesday evenings, and also give time to physical activities on weekends, while they are in the host family.

Usual schedule for the day:

  • 7:00 - start of the day;
  • 7: 10-7: 45 - breakfast;
  • 8:00 - residences stay closed for the daytime;
  • 8:30 - 12:00 - morning block of academic studies;
  • 12:00 - 13:00 - lunch;
  • 13:00 - 16:00 - afternoon block of academic studies;
  • 17: 00-18: 00 - free time, Attendance of electives and student clubs;
  • 19: 00-19: 30 - dinner;
  • 20: 00-21: 00 - free time, independent work and study;
  • 21:00 -22: 00 - free time for rest and entertainment, communication and games with friends;
  • 22:15 - end of the day.

The high school in France is divided into two levels:

  • The College (grades 6-9);
  • The Lycee (grades 10-12);
  • The final step is to study in the undergraduate program.

About the educational program: basic, fundamental sciences are studied in the 10th grade. Student can not enroll immediately in the 12th class (Terminale), if before that he did not finish the last two classes of the French school - that's why the students usually choose 10 (Seconde) or 11 (Première) class. Foreign students for studying must confirm the high level of knowledge of the French language and pass the relevant examinations.

List of subjects to study is devided into 3 blocks:

  • S (série scientifique) is a natural science, physics and mathematics;
  • ES (série économique et sociale) - economics and social (humanities) sciences;
  • L (série littéraire) - philosophy, French and foreign languages.

Accommodation, meals, prices

Lycée Louis Querbes operates on the principle of a five-day stay. From Monday to Friday, students live on campus with the rest of the students (French citizens and foreign students), and on weekends they go to host families. Each family is carefully selected by educational curators, constantly checked - you can be sure that family members will do everything possible to provide the most comfortable and safe conditions. Laundry services are provided, students can wash and pat their clothes. The family helps the student in case of a sickness or to get medical help, has the right to track academic successes and help in training, solve administrative and household issues.

The school residence, where pupils live five days a week (Monday to Friday), provides cozy, fully equipped rooms for 1-2 people. Common rooms at the residence are: dining rooms, lounges and bathrooms. Meals are organized according to the principle of full boarding.

Lycée Louis Querbes has a modern computer classroom, functional scientific laboratories for practical classes, equipped with classrooms; an extensive library, classes for music or art. Also on the territory there is a general Student Center, a large number of sections and clubs for interests, there is a diverse sports infrastructure, fields and grounds.

Admission dates and extra charges

Trimester runs from August 24 to December 18 (the required date of arrival for training is indicated); The fall semester is from August 24 to February 12, and the full academic year is from August 24 to June 18.

Note the official and state weekend when the school is not working:

  • Christmas holidays (two weeks from the end of October to the beginning of November);
  • Christmas (two weeks, including Christmas and New Year itself);
  • Winter Holidays (two weeks From mid-February to mid-March);
  • Spring break (two weeks from mid-April to mid-May);

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

  • It is necessary to have a personal interview before you arrive in the country and school. Students must complete their studies in the last grades of the French school (level A2), demonstrate excellent academic achievements and academic success, prepare a recommendation letter from the teacher of the French language.
  • In order to begin training in August, the application must be submitted before March 31, to begin classes in January - until October 31.
