Description of St. Joseph's Collège School

The French public school St. Joseph's Collège is located in the town of Rodez: this is a charming old town with a population of about 45 thousand people, with a large number of historical attractions and monuments. Both French citizens and foreign students (14 years and over) are accepted.

The school offers courses in high school (10-12 years) - the total number of students is about 700 people. International students study together with French students: so foreign pupils can progress faster in learning the French language and other academic disciplines, show higher results.

The list of subjects differs depending on the class and level of instruction, but the basic set of disciplines is approximately the same:

  • Mathematics;
  • French;
  • Physics;
  • First foreign (usually choose English);
  • The second foreign language (often Spanish or German);
  • Arts;
  • Biology;
  • Geography;
  • Sport and physical education;
  • History.

Also the St. Joseph's Collège teaching staff strive to educate students as a full-fledged personality, an active member of modern civil international society, to instill a sense of responsibility, independence, loyalty and tolerance. Constantly developing large joint projects, works and studies, during which students from different countries constantly interact with each other and work together. The curriculum focuses on the study of the French language, the exact and technical sciences. For foreign students, the assistance and support of a special employee and consul is provided, and NACEL headquarters are located nearby.

St. Joseph's Collège does not work during the holidays, public holidays. Classes on weekdays (from Monday to Friday) start at 8 a.m. and end at 5-6 p.m.(there is a one hour lunch break and short breaks between lessons). Some lessons are held in the morning hours on Saturday and Wednesday.

Usual schedule for the day:

  • 7:00 - start of the day;
  • 7:10 - 7:45 - breakfast;
  • 8:00 -residences close for daytime;
  • 8:30 - 12:00 - morning block of academic studies;
  • 12:00 - 13:00 - lunch;
  • 13:00 - 16:00 - afternoon academic study block;
  • 17: 00-18: 00 - free time, Visiting electives and student clubs;
  • 19: 00-19: 30 - dinner;
  • 20: 00-21: 00 - free time, independent work and study;
  • 21: 00-22: 00 - free time for recreation and entertainment, communication and games with friends;
  • 22:15 - end of the day.

Sports activities are not a compulsory supplement Curriculum: mostly students spend their time on sports on weekends, when they are in a host family, in the evenings on Wednesday or Saturday.

The French high school is divided into three stages:

  • The College (grades 6-9);
  • The Lycee (grades 10-12);
  • The final step is to study on the bachelor's program.

In the 10th grade, basic, fundamental sciences are studied, which are divided into 3 blocks (or series):

  • S (série scientifique) is a natural science, physics and mathematics;
  • ES (série économique et sociale) - economics and social (humanities) sciences;
  • L (série littéraire) - philosophy, French and foreign languages.

Note that the student can not enroll immediately in the 12th class (Terminale), if before that he did not finish the last two classes of the French school - that's why the students usually choose 10 (Seconde) or 11 (Première) class. Foreign students for studying must confirm the high level of knowledge of the French language and pass the relevant examinations.

Accommodation, meals, prices

St. Joseph's Collège works on a five-day system: on weekdays students are accommodated on campus, in comfortable and equipped residences, and on weekends, vacations and public holidays are in the homes of host families. Each family is carefully checked by staff and selected for the student individually. Family members are doing everything possible to provide students with maximum comfort and coziness, security: in addition to rooms and food, the laundry is available; Also the family has the right to supervise the student's educational process, to help him with solving domestic and administrative issues. In case of illness, injury or discomfort, the family also assumes responsibility for the timely provision of medical care (clinic visit or doctor's call, outpatient or inpatient treatment).

The common residence, in which students are accommodated on weekdays, provides cozy equipped rooms for 1-2 people. Common are rooms for rest, bathrooms and dining rooms.

St. Joseph's Collège has prepared bright and modern classrooms, its own extensive library and computer center, functional scientific laboratories (where practical classes are usually held). There are sections and clubs on interests, studios for creativity or music, a general Student Center, a large number of sports fields have been prepared.

Admission dates and extra charges

Trimester runs from August 24 to December 18 (the required date of arrival for training is indicated); The fall semester is from August 24 to February 12, and the full academic year is from August 24 to June 18.

Note the official and state weekend when the school is not working:

  • Christmas holidays (two weeks from the end of October to the beginning of November);

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

  • It is necessary to have a personal interview before you arrive in the country and school. Students must complete their studies in the last grades of the French school (level A2), demonstrate excellent academic achievements and academic success, prepare a recommendation letter from the teacher of the French language.
  • In order to begin training in August, the application must be submitted before March 31, to begin classes in January - until October 31.
