The Institute of Contemporary Theatre Brighton (ICTheatre Brighton) is an institute in partnership and led by one of the leading universities in the performing arts, the BIMM University.

The institution has two campuses in England: brighton and Manchester. The set of programs in Brighton includes undergraduate and graduate courses, an extended diploma. They are developed in collaboration with leading specialists in creative professions in order to transfer modern applied skills and life-applicable knowledge to the younger generation of cinema, theater and television. The teaching staff of the Institute includes only experienced and highly qualified directors, dancers and choreographers, producers, actors and singers who conduct not only standard classes, but also master classes, seminars and non-campus events.

Bachelor

Students interested in the performing arts who have received a school certificate are offered a three-year bachelor's degree program. The first year of study will contain general disciplines that allow you to study your abilities: physical, vocal, academic and creative. In the second year, students are given a choice of three areas:

  • Modern musical theatre,
  • Acting skills of the XXI century,
  • Hip-hop artistry.

According to the specialty chosen by them, a curriculum is drawn up, which will contain specialized subjects for in-depth study of the direction. Students will train a lot under the guidance of professional teachers, attend non-campus events, create individual projects and share their experience with classmates.

At the end of the program, students will be able to study their specialty even deeper by enrolling in an additional course lasting one year. It also applies to undergraduate programs, but gives more advantages at the beginning of a career path.

Extended 3 Level Diploma in Performing Arts

The Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts is a two-year program designed specifically for teachers who wish to improve their knowledge and skills through additional education.

The teaching load is a minimum of 18.5 hours of classes/week under the supervision of teachers. Students will be able to choose one of three areas:

  • Musical Theatre,
  • Acting and theatre,
  • Dance skills and performance.

The program is available to students from 18 years old and is free for residents of the UK and THE EU.

Master

  • The term of study is 1 year (full-time), 2 years (part-time).

Students have the opportunity to complete an innovative Master's program in the performing arts. It is suitable for already knowledgeable performers, choreographers, directors and entrepreneurs.

The curriculum includes many hours of research, the creation of an individual project, training under the guidance of professional specialists and master classes of invited speakers. The plan adapts to the initial abilities of each student, so the training will be effective and useful.

The institute does not have its own dormitories, so staff help students find accommodation near campus and throughout the city. Most often, students are interested in the following options:

Facilities and equipment at Institute of Contemporary Theatre Brighton

The Brighton campus has state-of-the-art facilities for teaching performing arts at the highest level. Classes are held at several venues, and additional studios for practices are located throughout the city. Students will also have access to the BIMM Universities infrastructure and the Screen and Film School campus, their professors and students to carry out individual projects or organize events.

Diploma courses are held at Vantage Point, degree courses are organized in specialized centers Marina Studios and Bird Studios.

All educational areas are equipped with large studios with springy floors, full-length mirrors, sound and lighting systems. In use are also drama and theater classes, music and rehearsal halls, student lounges for rest and communication, cafes.

The main campus is Bird Studios. It is located on the seafront in Portslade, a short drive from the city centre. On this territory the largest number of studios for classes and self-study.

In addition to modern areas, Vintage Point has a black box studio theatre and vocal rooms, and the Marina Studios campus, located on the marina, boasts additional dance classes with oak floors and ballet machines.

Outside of ICTheatre's study areas, students can use studio spaces for filming, IT classes to work with motion capture equipment to create video models, and a variety of other spaces.

Admission dates and extra charges

Dates of the academic year:

  • Introductory week for freshmen: September 5-18,
  • Fall semester: September 26-January 21,
  • Winter holidays: December 18-January 9,
  • Spring semester: January 30-May 22,
  • Spring break: April 2-17.

Master's students have an additional semester: May 29-September 4.

Most fees are included in the price of the program, in addition, you should take care of off-campus accommodation and meals, entertainment and personal expenses. Some courses will require a non-refundable deposit of £50-100.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related creative profession or significant work experience in this field,
  • The result of the IELTS English language test is from 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.0 for each group,
  • Portfolio of creative works.

The main attention of the admission committee is paid to the entrance auditions, so applicants should carefully prepare for them: learn a literary dialogue or a clipping from a movie, perform a song or poem, act out a performance or otherwise show their talent.

International students receive an automatic scholarship of £2,000, reducing the cost of annual tuition or accommodation.
