The Helsinki School of Business (HELBUS) is a private business school in Finland that offers English-language undergraduate and graduate programs. The institution belongs to the Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry and, thanks to cooperation with the British University of Northampton, awards degrees on behalf of this particular university.

The history of the school has been known since the early 2000s, when the Helsinki School of Business was an exchange program called Academy Access, offering semesters of study in Malaysia. At that time, about 500 students from 40 universities in Europe took advantage of the opportunity for international educational experience. Now HELBUS, which has received accreditation for teaching higher education programs, implements first-class education for specialists in the field of business and management.

Teachers of specialized disciplines who teach students in small classes have doctoral degrees and many years of experience, which guarantees the receipt of competitive knowledge and readiness for a career at the international level.

Educational process

Learning is streamlined by the modular structure of the course, in which students study only one subject for three weeks as part of a full-time program.

All tasks are completed and submitted electronically. Each student should have a laptop and MS Office programs, a good Internet connection.

Bachelor's Programme

Students enrolled in the undergraduate program at the Helsinki Business School will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Management upon graduation.

In the first and second years, students will build a solid foundation of knowledge in disciplines such as marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, human resource management, and organizational behavior, and learn how these areas integrate into the broad business environment. In the third year, students will expand these competencies and deepen their theoretical and practical knowledge in core areas, while improving their individual and group skills.

Bachelor's Dual-Award Programme

In cooperation with the Finnish Institute of Entrepreneurship (SYO), the business school offers a dual program consisting of a bachelor's degree in business and management and a professional qualification.

During the first year and a half of study, students will receive the Higher National Diploma of Business (HNDB) with a block approach to programs, in which subjects are taught sequentially for three weeks. For the last six months of study, students will have to complete the BATop-UP program implemented by the University of Northampton. During this time, students will study six disciplines at the same time + complete additional tasks for obtaining a degree.

MBA Programs, MBA Programs

  • Age - from 21 years,
  • The duration of training is 12 months.

HELBUS offers an MBA program in Business Administration, a degree awarded by the University of Northampton (UoN), UK. This means that while studying in Finland, students are considered as pupils of UoN. 

The program is offered in two formats: face-to-face and part-time, both consisting of offline and online training that can be completed from anywhere in the world. Full-time education takes 12 months, and part-time attendance lasts for 24 months.

Compared to a master's degree, an MBA program is a universal degree with a broader and holistic approach. It includes the following modules:

  • Critical problems in business,
  • Management and Organizational Behavior,
  • Financial decision-making,
  • Strategic Marketing,
  • Operations and Supply Chain Management,
  • Entrepreneurship Report,
  • Competitive Strategy and Innovation,
  • Business Research Project,
  • International business negotiations.

In general, the MBA degree consists of 180 British credits, which is equivalent to 90 ECTS credits, it will take one calendar year (three academic semesters) to complete it with full-time study.

All classes are taught in English, and assessment is carried out through written assignments: reports, essays and critical analysis. 

Accommodation, meals, prices

The institution does not provide students with housing, but can help in finding a suitable option. Near the campus there are several residential areas that have everything from student residences and hotels to apartments and apartments for rent.

Activities Helsinki School of Business

The extracurricular life of the students of the business school is managed by the HELBUS Student Core. It includes the students themselves, and many of them are representatives of other countries, which plays an important role in the embodiment of diverse ideas and support of cultures and nations. Numerous annual events include the freshman party, Studia fairs, skiing in Himos, swims in Stockholm, the celebration of May 1 in Kaivopuisto and many other events: sports, creative, social, scientific.

Each fall, members of the Student Council are elected from among the new students. For contributing to extracurricular activities, students receive "miles" - points that can be used in the school's souvenir shops. Moreover, each participant will definitely be provided with a good recommendation that will decorate the graduation resume.

Facilities and equipment at Helsinki School of Business

The HELBUS study area is located in the center of Helsinki, in the Tööle district. Due to the proximity to quiet residential areas and a lively center, good transport equipment, students have access to many options for leisure and broadening their horizons: restaurants, attractions, social events will help foreign students plunge into the local culture and get acquainted with representatives of different countries.

The school's campus is technologically advanced: classrooms, laboratories, computer classes are equipped with interactive equipment. The teaching uses a modern approach - each student uses his laptop or tablet for research projects and homework. As the device is required in the classroom, free Wi-Fi for students is available on site, as well as a wired internet connection.

Admission dates and extra charges

The academic year consists of autumn, spring and summer semesters, lasts almost without interruption.

Full-time students in the first and second years of undergraduate studies are held five days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. As part of the online program, "live" classes are organized weekly, usually on Tuesday evenings. Third-year modules are held regularly on campus for two semesters: January to June.

When studying for master's programs, you can choose the format: attending classes regularly (fully full-time) or part-time study. Depending on the chosen form, the student's schedule is built.

  • Registration of a residence permit, booking accommodation,
  • The beginning of education.

Having received a bachelor's degree in English, students graduate with good preparation in business English and specialized skills. Graduates have a good track record of employment: many of them have achieved a rapid start in their careers after the second year of study. 

After graduation, students can work in Finland or abroad, in the service sector, trade, industry or entertainment, in a small or large company, or perhaps in their own start-up. Some of the organizations in which graduates of the institution work:

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Prospective students of undergraduate programs must have one of the following academic documents:

  • Certificate confirming the completion of complete secondary education,
  • International Baccalaureate Certificate,
  • European Baccalaureate Certificate,
  • Certificate of completion of the Finnish entrance examination,
  • Secondary vocational education of at least three years in Finland or an adult vocational education qualification (supporting document).

Additionally, you should attach a passport, medical insurance and a certificate confirming the level of English proficiency: IELTS (from 6.0) or its equivalent.

Requirements for admission to master's programs:

  • Bachelor's degree in business and management or a similar subject obtained from a university of applied sciences / Bachelor's degree in another discipline with an interest in business and entrepreneurship,
  • A resume containing personal qualities and academic achievements,
  • Certificate of English proficiency: IELTS (6.5), TOEFL (from 88) or equivalent,
  • A letter of recommendation from the teacher, if available.

Applicants without a bachelor's degree can also apply if they provide proof of ten years of managerial work experience. Sometimes the period required for confirmation may be shorter if the candidate has a higher professional education. 

All documents must be submitted in English and certified by a notary. 

Scholarships Helsinki School of Business

The institution is private, so it does not provide scholarships. Students can apply for external financial support: state awards, loans and loans, grants.
