Founded in 1985, Girne American University – GAU has always aimed to provide a high American level of education in Northern Cyprus. It was organized by the American Educational Consortium, so that the process of improvement and development of the university does not stop, providing Cypriot and international students with high-quality education in comfortable conditions.
It is considered one of the best universities in the region and the island. Accredited by the U.S. Higher Education Commission, it has received recognition from the Turkish Council for Higher Education – CBO (the first in Northern Cyprus) and from YODAK (Higher Education Planning, Assessment, Accreditation and Coordination Council)
Most of the teachers came to Girne American University from the US and the UK.
GAU has offices in the US, UK, Turkey and Singapore, Hong Kong, Turkey, Moldova and Sri Lanka. Students are offered bachelor's and master's programs, postgraduate education (postgraduate study), professional courses, summer and winter language school. Thanks to the established international cooperation, GAU students can leave for exchange to other countries, gain international experience, hone their academic and language skills.

The main programs are designed for 4 years, there is a popular course in which students begin their studies in Cyprus, and then move to the American branch and receive a diploma in the United States. The academic year is divided into 2 semesters (at the end of each - exams), the plan is modular, based on credit hours: bachelor's degree - at least 120 credits + 6-9 credits in foreign languages. The educational process includes lectures, seminars, practical and laboratory classes, individual consultations.

For 10 years, the GAU International Summer School has been gathering teenage students from all over the world for effective, exciting summer courses!
The combined summer program is divided according to the age of students: there is an option for adults (18+), for adolescents (13-18 years) and for children (7-12 years).

For applicants to the bachelor's degree:

- TOEFL iBT 60 or IELTS certificate from 5.0. If you enroll in programs on:

Scholarships American Girne University
- All foreign students upon admission can apply for a discount on tuition of 50% (bachelor's and master's degrees)
- If the applicant has completed the course of the GAU Summer Language School, he can apply for a discount of 75% (bachelor's degree).
Academic scholarships are awarded to students from the 2nd year if they have received at least 10 credits and maintain a CGPA score of at least 3.50. Applications are submitted in late September-early October and are confirmed annually.
