Description of Fyling Hall School Private Boarding School

  • Founded: in 1923
  • Location: Whitby, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom
  • Age of students: 4-18 years
  • Total number of students: 160 people
  • Type of education: mixed
  • Type of accommodation: residence (full or weekly board), full-time
  • Language of instruction: English.

The private boarding school Fyling Hall School is located in North Yorkshire, almost on the North Sea coast, 3 hours drive from London. This is a magnificent scenic area between the water surface and the green spacious valleys: here, nothing prevents children from concentrating on attentive, thoughtful, effective study. It's a great choice from International schools in England UK.

The small size of the school - only 160 students study here - gives each student the opportunity to show their talents and abilities, and teachers can give each individual close attention, track all successes and achievements. In each class there are no more than 12-15 people.

The moto of the school is very true: "The days that make us happy make us wise." Here, both British and foreign students from Europe, Asia, African countries, North and South America can study. Famous graduates, who have become successful and well-known specialists, only emphasize the prestige, high reputation and ranking of the educational institution:

  • James Nun (sportsman-rugby player);
  • Ryan Gibson (athlete - cricket);
  • Michael Dickenson (artist);
  • Eliza Carty (folk musician);
  • Philip Hayton (television reporter, international correspondent of BBC News).

When is the ideal time to apply to UK schools, and what should applicants expect?

Generally, the earlier, the better. Some prestigious schools close their admissions 1-2 years before the start of the program. Consider entrance exams, which require preparation, and visa processes, which don't fare well with last-minute arrangements.

About the educational program: Two-year course Sixth Form, intended for students 16-18 years (12-13 class), planning to enter universities. A-level certificate with excellent points increases the chances of enrolling even in the most prestigious and rating universities, exempts from passing additional entrance examinations and tests.

The course is designed for two academic years: at AS-level students choose 4-5 priority subjects, of which only 3-4 are left on the A-level (the second year), and exams are already taken for them. Such academic concentration gives the opportunity to give maximum attention to the most priority scientific areas, to study profoundly those disciplines that will be needed for enrolling in the chosen faculty and specialty. Subjects for personal curriculum students choose independently - they are provided with an extensive, diverse list:

  • English as a Second Language;
  • English;

Activities Fyling Hall School Private Boarding School

In their spare time students are constantly improving in different sports and physical activity:

  • Canoeing (extra charge);
  • Badminton;
  • Horse riding (extra charge);
  • Basketball;
  • Athletics;
  • Paintball;
  • Football;
  • Tennis;
  • Rugby;
  • Volleyball;
  • Cricket;
  • Softball;
  • Netball;
  • Swimming.

Horse riding is considered as a part of the cultural heritage of the school Fyling Hall: it has its own stable (8 horses and ponies), whose inhabitants enjoy the constant love of schoolchildren. Classes are safe and accessible to students with any initial level of preparation: trainings are conducted by qualified, experienced coaches, fully responsible for the safety of their wards.

Many students go in for sports as part of school teams, go to competitions, tournaments, friendlies and games; Numerous sports days are held on campus and invariably gather almost all students - as participants, spectators and fans.

Great attention is paid to the creative development of children. For example, classes in a local drama studio are very popular and in demand: children have their own theater and a summer concert venue for organizing and conducting various productions, concerts and performances. Often the drama studio travels outside the school and even the county: participates in festivals and competitions, exchanges experience with other students, takes first places and prizes.

The Art School, which offers a variety of fine arts, regularly arranges galleries of the most talented works, thematic annual exhibitions.

Most of the students regularly engage in music:

  • Singing in the choir;
  • Playing musical instruments;
  • Working in a variety of ensembles, orchestras and bands.

Often musicians go with concerts outside the school (especially the choristers): for example, recently a school choir was invited to shoot in the BBC documentary! The choir performs classical works, folk music, modern rock and pop masterpieces. Students are allowed to assemble their own band or ensemble (wind or keyboard instruments, violin, guitar, drums and other percussion), you can take individual lessons of solo vocal.

Advantages

  • Teaching and learning in a small team not only provides a family, friendly atmosphere - it makes learning more efficient, productive, active, serves to maximize the potential and talents of each student;
  • Small sizes of school and classes help children to establish a strong friendship - many graduates do not lose contact with each other for many years;
  • Attention is paid not only to the academic, but also to the moral, psychological, creative, sports, social development of children, the upbringing of a harmonious personality;
  • Individual, personal approach;
  • Excellent location: magnificent colourful landscapes combined with modern, technically advanced equipment.

Review about Fyling Hall School Private Boarding School

Irene
(30.11.2021)
Fyling Hall entered september 2021. We were transferred from an Irish school, as the school there was with a strong religious bias, and this did not suit us. We were looking for something in a similar price category. We turned to the company SMAPSE for the selection of options. We recommended Fyling Hall, organized a meeting with the director on Zoom. After the conversation, we decided to enroll. The agency helped with the submission of documents and visa processing for the child. The work of the agent was satisfied, the school is also doing well.

Olga Podlesnykh
(10.10.2019)
Hello! I want to thank Xenia for helping me enroll my daughter Diana, who initially thought of a British school in Spain, Malta or Cyprus. Ksenia dissuaded us, insisted on the UK. Schools in London were too expensive and did not fit into my budget for teaching my daughter, Ksenia proposed the option of Fyling Hall School with a boarding school. After going through all the stages of the exams in Cheers, my daughter was expected to go to school grade 11 in September. Summer flew by quickly and on September 2 we are on our way to the UK. Excitement, tears, and here again the help of our Ksenia arrived in time. She talked with the girl, encouraged, gave instructions !, shared her experience. We got to school. A delightful place, like in a fairy tale. Green fields, hills, lawns, narrow cobbled streets near the sea and here we are in the guesthouse. Huge beautiful territory, several buildings in the English style, friendly staff. There were tears, but by the evening of the first day they were over. New acquaintances, new impressions. My daughter is very happy! Yes, learning is not easy, but believe me, it's worth it. Ksenia, many human thanks from our entire family for insisting on the UK and advising us on this particular school. If someone needs the advice of an experienced president, I will be glad to help. Ksenia, good luck, prosperity and all the best. Sincerely, Olga
