Activities Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg

Studying at FAU is an introduction to everyday life in Germany, German and Franconian culture. The urban location allows students to visit local bars, clubs, theaters and shops.

The Technikum Residence is located in the Uferstadt district of Fürth, on the banks of the Pegnitz River. Just around the corner from Technikum, in the Pegnitzauen district, students can ride a bike along the river or enjoy a barbecue with friends.

Advantages

  • FAU offers over 260 programs to choose from, a wide range of subjects and an interdisciplinary network that are unique in Germany. State Exam and Bachelor's degree programs are designed for those who have not yet completed their advanced degrees. During their graduate studies, students can expand their specialized knowledge and develop academic skills.
  • FAU is one of the public universities: it receives government funding to maintain high standards of higher education in Germany, and the education itself is free.
  • FAU is one of the most successful universities in Germany. Four researchers have been awarded the Nobel Prize: Emil Fischer - Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1902, Eduard Buchner - Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1907, Arthur Harden - Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1929, Harald zur Hausen - Nobel Prize in Medicine 2008
  • The university annually allocates about 200 million euros for the implementation of innovative research projects, which increases the innovative potential and international recognition. The quality and diversity of individual research forms the interdisciplinary linkages that make collaborative projects possible.
  • The university rewards outstanding talent by helping young researchers to attract external funding and self-promote innovative projects, expanding academic independence.

Facilities and equipment at Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg

FAU is scattered across several cities, each of the campuses closely related to the social and economic life of the cities. Study and city life at FAU go hand in hand. Students can reach other cities by public transport in just 15 minutes - these are the advantages of close connections between cities and the university when it comes to education and research.

  • The Collegienhaus is located right at Erlangen Castle and is often used for lectures and seminars in the humanities and law. The main railway station, the university library, the university administration and the medical school are just a stone's throw from the residence.
  • The Technikum campus houses the Institute for Learning Innovation (ILI), the Institute for Advanced Materials and Processes (ZMP), and several other university institutions.
  • Lange Gasse is the premier platform for students at the School of Business, Economics and Society (WiSo). The castle and city center are within walking distance of the hotel, and the campus has its own library and cafeteria.
  • The Dr. Reymeis Observatory in Bamberg has been owned by the FAU since the 1960s. It is the most northerly of all university institutions: it conducts research in astrophysics, seminars, practical courses and lectures.
