Preparing for IGCSE

  • Age: 12-14 years.

The IGCSE preparation course is a great opportunity for students aged 12-14 to improve their knowledge and skills in order to study on a difficult IGCSE course with pleasure and maximum involvement. In terms of age, this stage roughly corresponds to grades 8-10 in the UK and grades 7-9 in the US.

The two-year course is divided into two stages: 12-13 and 13-14 years. At each stage, 5-6 subjects are studied (with full-time; with a mixed format, 1-2 subjects in the curriculum). Validation tests and midterm exams are held regularly to ensure that all the material is fully absorbed by the children.

What subjects are included in the program?

  • English language
  • Natural sciences: biology, chemistry, physics,
  • Mathematics
  • Computer Science,
  • Social Sciences,
  • A global community.

Additionally, students take a course in English as a foreign language (ESOL, English for speakers of other languages). This is a full-fledged, rather intensive language training for teenagers 12-15 years old: both the "everyday", everyday English, and its academic component, which is so necessary for further education, are improving. The main textbooks are the Wider World manuals (Pearson publishing house, whose accreditation the school has), and the Pearson English Portal with a multi-language interface helps them. Before the start of lessons, all students take the Pearson Versant English Placement Test, which will determine the existing level of knowledge:

  • A2 (Elementary) = 34-45 points,
  • B1 (Intermediate) = 46-56 points,
  • B2 (Upper Intermediate) = 57-67 points.

ESOL classes are held throughout the school year, from September to May, 3 hours per week (plus homework, also no more than 3 hours per week). You can join the course on any date.

AP provides for a large amount of independent work. Exams are taken at the end of the year. Due to the independent choice of subjects, the course also helps career guidance, giving students the opportunity to focus on those areas of knowledge that are of the highest priority for them.
