The success of Spanish universities at the global level annually proves that this warm southern European country has long been not just a great place for tourism and recreation, but also a reliable platform for obtaining high-quality education and a guarantee of further successful career. Diplomas of local universities are highly valued all over the world, and their affiliation to the Bologna system simplifies the scheme of admission to the master's degree.
For foreign students, the studying in any Spanish university is paid. However, this is a relatively small amount. At the moment, there are about 70 public and private universities in the country, each of which has licensed educational programs. Spain attracts international students both by the high quality of education and, despite the mandatory payment, by the availability and democratic nature of local prices. At the European level, Spain stands out favorably with attractive prices combined with a vibrant busy life and friendly locals. Those who have traveled around the solar kingdom at least once would hardly refuse the opportunity to spend much more time here.
Nowadays, Master degree in Barcelona universities is popular among local residents, who after graduation from Bachelor program continue their studies on Master degree. The Master's degree will allow not only to improve their qualifications, but also, if desired, to continue their studies and obtain a doctorate (PhD).
Study Master degree in Barcelona – how to enroll?
To successfully pass the competition for art master degree in Barcelona, the foreign student will definitely need:
- Bachelor's degree in the specialty for which admission to the master's program is planned. This is a necessary condition for state universities, but with the proximity of profiles, a compromise solution is also possible.
- Certificate of proficiency in Spanish or English. Master degree in English in Barcelona is more widely presented than in Spanish. To enroll in a fully English direction, you need to provide an IELTS certificate with a score of at least 6.0 or TOEFL with 80 points or higher. There are also programs where studying is conducted in both languages, which requires proof of proficiency in both Spanish and English. The Spanish language exam is called DELE (Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera), and is conducted at the Cervantes Institute; for admission to the master's program, as a rule, you need a B2 or C1 level.
- Motivation letter. A motivation letter for a master's degree requires not only justification of the reasons, but also the presentation of specific plans for the duration of studying.
- Cover Letter, recommendations.
Below the list of compulsory documents is provided:
- A copy of the passport and a document of citizenship certified by the consulate;
- Notarized and translated into Spanish – a copy of the diploma and the diploma supplement (with a list of completed disciplines);
- Registration fee (100 €).
Applications begin to be accepted from March 15, and the results are announced at the end of May and in mid-July. Preparation of documents should begin at least a year before the planned admission. To be safe, we recommend to apply for several programs.
Master degree programs in Barcelona – popular directions for education
It is not surprising that one of the most popular master programs is tourism - the most promising direction for further work in Spain. A diploma of a highly qualified specialist will only double your chances of getting a position in a good company and improve professional and in-demand skills in the labour market. The duration of Master degree in Barcelona can continue up to 2 years. The main condition of studying is the full completion of ECTS credits. These are 60 credits or 10 months in the humanities, engineering and exact sciences and 90-120 credits in the programs of medicine, psychology and biology (3 or 4 semesters).
The subjects included in the master's program are basic, specialized and optional. Everything is designed for a uniform combination of theory, practice and independent research work. Classes last for 50-60 minutes, studying for a master's degree is already a fairly easy option – only 4-5 lectures a week.

The cost of studying under the Master program is clearly regulated by the state – both in public and private universities. In public universities, this amount will be about 2000 € per year, and in private universities – about 8000 €. The amount depends on the chosen program and the time of study. The most expensive living costs in Barcelona, and is about 1000 € per month.

All Spanish universities support their graduates in finding employment. Most of the recent students find a job in the first six months. During the study, there is also an internship that allows the foreign students to establish contacts with a potential employer.
