King's College School is an independent, coeducational preparatory school for children from 4 to 13 years old. It was founded in Cambridge to train choristers at King's College in the 15th century. Although the school is no longer located on the college grounds, it remains an integral part of the musical traditional Chapel.

Pre-Prep (Rec-2)

The Pre-Prep approach to education is based on the development of a holistic personality, creating an environment in which effort is always rewarded, children feel safe and happy, love to experiment, explore and achieve the highest results. Students take part in Forest School's outdoor, on-campus activities, build confidence and self-esteem through hands-on activities that inspire students.

Juniors (Years 3-4)

In addition to classes, students' learning is enriched by an exciting programme of themed trips and visits, including the very popular Ancient Egypt Day in Grade 3 and Rome Day in Grade 4. Children live in a happy and close-knit community based on high expectations and mutual support.

Pupils continue to benefit from the continuity and consistency of learning predominantly from their classroom teacher, who is responsible for monitoring their academic and social development. Pupils receive specialised instruction in a wide range of subjects, including:

Students are provided with a wide range of academic, artistic, and athletic opportunities. They participate in national essay writing competitions, mathematical and computational thinking competitions, practice in a variety of ensembles (including the school orchestra), perform in annual drama productions, and regularly participate in sports competitions with other schools. A sense of team spirit and constructive evaluation is fostered throughout the training, students demonstrate a greater awareness of their own unique skills and strengths, and appreciate the skills of others.

At the peak of their school life at King's, Year 8 students enjoy the responsibilities and challenges of being the oldest group in the school.

For many, Grade 8 involves preparing for and taking the entrance exams to their preferred high school. With the meticulous support of the class teacher and a dedicated team of subject teachers, the school strives to ensure that students approach this important stage of their lives in a balanced, thoughtful and purposeful way, showing kindness and empathy to each other.

Accommodation, meals, prices

King's College School strives to create an atmosphere of comfort and a sense of home for pupils: boys and girls feel safe, happy and able to excel in both study and play. Here, students are helped with academic studies, with music lessons, and a wide range of activities are offered to fill their free time. The extensive school grounds and facilities are available to the child at the end of each day, while activities in the warmer months are interspersed with barbecues and evening swims.

King's College School offers students weekly (Monday to Thursday), flexible boarding for boys and girls. All 4th and 5th year chorister boys can choose any schedule. Male choristers of the 6th to 8th courses are full-fledged boarders (except weekends). In the boarding school, the well-being of the pupils is monitored by the homeowner, with the support of home tutors and an older sister.

Children are at their best when they feel confident, safe and appreciated. The main goal of King's College School is to create one that will allow children to have the best school experience and be proud of all their achievements.

Activities King's College Private School Cambridge

The school educates choristers at King's College, Cambridge, and in December 2010 Gramophone Magazine voted the choir the second best choir (with children) in the world. Schola Cantorum for girls 6-8 years old aims to provide girls with similar opportunities. Art, music and drama are taught to all students separately, all students learn to play an instrument in class, almost all take extracurricular lessons on the instrument from the 3rd grade. There are 5 choirs (including the cathedral choir), two orchestras (70-80 people each) and 40 instrumental ensembles. The school offers each student more than 5 different extracurricular activities for creativity and performing arts. A wide range of after-school clubs contribute to enhancing the student experience and enriching knowledge at any age.

The curriculum includes a wide range of opportunities that go beyond academic classroom activities. Great importance is attached to extracurricular opportunities, including school trips and activities: King's College School students visit the Scott Institute of Polar Research, Evacuation Day (March 17) in Stibbington, the Stained Glass Museum in Ili Cathedral, residential trips to France and many sporting events. Guest external speakers—writers, doctors, scientists, and policymakers—regularly contribute to comprehensive learning.

Leisure clubs (year-round groups) are organized with an exciting program that includes a variety of sports, arts and crafts, stories and free games (indoor and outdoor). They are usually carried out:

  • In the last week of the summer holidays.

Priority is given to full-time students; part-time seats are often available. Some students may choose to attend the Recreation Club with morning tennis practice.

Facilities and equipment at King's College Private School Cambridge

King's College School covers a total area of about 9 acres. The school is conveniently located in the heart of Cambridge, within walking distance of King's College Chapel. The campus has modern sports facilities, including athletics fields, cricket and rugby courts, astro turf hockey courts, full-size tennis, netball and squash courts, heated outdoor pool (open from April to July, in September and October).

Given King's College School's centrally located location, students can take advantage of all that Cambridge has to offer, including museum tours, exhibitions, and admiring historic architecture. With unique access to King's College Chapel, pupils regularly mark the beginning and end of each semester with a chapel service to which parents are also invited.

King's College School has excellent conditions for music classes, equipped with 4 music classrooms in addition to 16 individual classrooms for teaching and rehearsals. The school has a large assembly hall, where various performances, concerts and lectures by invited guests are held throughout the year.

In 2019, King's College School opened a modern sports and cultural center with an area of 8500 sq.m., including a dance studio and a multi-sports hall the size of 4 badminton courts, which is also an auditorium with retractable tiered chairs. Children can play netball, basketball and cricket with the help of retractable nets in the main sports hall. Younger students enjoy the newly designed "Adventure Playground" during breaks and before class.

The academic year at King's College School runs from September to June. The year is divided into 3 trimesters, between which vacations are organized:

Enrolment process

When applying to King's College School, the candidate and their parents need to take the following steps:

  • Sign up. You need to fill out the registration form and pay a non-refundable registration fee, after which the child's name will be added to the waiting list in his group.
  • Evaluation. The child will be invited to the school for certification, and a request will be sent to the current school for a confidential reference report (does not apply to applicants to kindergarten or preparatory school).
  • Offer of a seat. Parents have two weeks to accept the offer of a place.
  • Preparation of documents for admission. A full package of documents for admission is sent to parents within a semester before the child enters school.
  • Transitional visit. If possible, the school will arrange an introductory visit for the child and an introduction to his new teachers.

At the end of the 8th grade, students at King's College School move on to high schools in the Cambridge area. The most common are Perse, The Stephen Perse, The Leys, King's Ely and St Mary's.
