Accommodation, meals, prices

Carleton University offers a variety of residence halls, both traditional and deluxe, for students of different years. Single and double rooms are available to first-year students, and if there are not enough rooms for new students, staff can help you find off-campus housing and apply for a residence permit.

Traditional rooms consist of one or two beds and a shared bathroom. A limited number of these rooms are in modules with an additional guest area. Deluxe apartments are four, two and single rooms with a common living room, toilet and a small kitchen equipped with necessary appliances.

The residential buildings are located next door to the academic buildings, which guarantees quick access to all infrastructure, reduces the chance of being late for classes and provides a comfortable and interesting stay with students from different countries.

While staying in the residence, students receive meals according to the plan of their choice, which are served in a large dining hall and café. Menus are prepared using locally sourced food, take into account balanced and healthy eating standards, and are customized to meet the dietary needs of some students.

The cost of the meal plan includes housing and from 10 meals per week with additional dollars for spending at on-campus food outlets. Annual spending on room and board ranges from $16,364 to $20,487CAD, with room only rentals available from $12,420CAD per year.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

You can apply for admission to Carleton University online, through the Ontario Universities' Application Center or the official representative of the university through the Ontario Provincial Admissions Office.

According to the general requirements, if a student enters a university immediately after graduation, he is obliged to provide a secondary education diploma (some departments set a minimum average score for admission).

Students from other educational institutions have the right to transfer to Carleton University if the established requirements for admission are met: submit an application, confirm the level of knowledge of a foreign language, provide grades for the last years of study.

For Russians and foreigners who do not have English as their first language, there are several conditions for admission to CU :

  • Provide confirmation that the student has been studying at a school, college or university in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom or any other country in which the main language is English and where the language of instruction in the relevant educational institution was exclusively English
  • Pass the language exam:

- Minimum 70 points on the results of the CAEL exam (The Canadian Academic English Language)

- At least 6.5 points for IELTS exam results

- At least 86 points for TOEFL iBT

- Passing other language exams (ESLA, MELAB, PTE) in compliance with the minimum requirements for the number of points.

  • Sign up for an additional specialized ESLR course, if the number of language exam scores is not enough for enrollment, and after completing it, continue studying on the main academic program.

Scholarships Carleton University

Carleton University funds student research with more than $97,000,000 in endowment each year. Students who are successful in academics, sports, and community service have the opportunity to receive scholarships totaling over $32,000,000 annually.
