Description of Canadian Mennonite University

  • Established: 1999
  • Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
  • Number of students: 3000
  • Language of instruction: English
  • Type of institution: private university.

Canadian Mennonite University is a private Christian higher education institution in Canada. The university was formed through the merger of three colleges: the Canadian Bible College of the Mennonite, the Bible College of the Mennon Brotherhood and the Menno-Simons College in 1999.

Studying at Canadian Mennonite University is not just a learning process, but a full board. All students living in the hostel:

  • Eat three times a day in the student cafeteria
  • Each room hosts a dinner once a week for roommates.

Since the institution has a Christian bias, this leaves an imprint on everyday life:

  • All students are advised to attend the chapel on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:30.
  • The disciples form comradely groups - these are groups of students who regularly meet to develop relationships with God and with each other. The members of the group care and support each other and pray together.
  • Wednesday Night Worship (WNW) is the time when students gather to express their faith through singing, prayer, and Bible study. The worship takes place every Wednesday evening in the chapel on the south side.
  • Twice a year (once in the first semester and once in the second), the university welcomes the pastor, who comes to the CMU for a week. The pastor speaks in the chapel / forum, attends events and communicates with students.
