Elementary school

The institution has developed its own programs for students with disabilities who learn in unique, different ways. The school pays personal attention to students in small groups: classes in core subjects average six students or less. The student is assessed in each subject and placed according to his needs, whether he is at a level above, below, or at the level of his class. Educators monitor progress, assess fitness throughout the year, and move students as they progress.

Different types of academic groups meet different student needs: the groups follow the Ontario curriculum with some individual changes or adaptations. Healing classes provide more intense focus in areas such as transcript or comprehension, math skills, and writing.

Secondary school

Brighton's innovative high school special education program is designed to meet the special needs of students who will find it difficult to meet the demands of the typical school curriculum and social environment. The institution offers a unique three-level program for high school students with learning disabilities. Choose courses from the same direction - or customize the combined schedule of credits, preliminary, alternative courses according to your needs.

Credit courses are designed for students who will benefit from the slower pace of extended "full year courses" rather than semester courses; or for those who may need to reduce the load.

Pre-credit courses are designed for students seeking to enroll in credit courses but who need a year or two to improve their qualifications. The no-credit alternative courses focus on developing functional skills in language, literacy, numeracy, general knowledge as well as social skills, independence.

Activities Brighton School Toronto

After-school activities allow students to engage in a variety of sports and arts, and are designed to develop skills, friendship, teamwork, and self-confidence.

The school offers social skills programs, home tutoring, speech services, dance, theater, and a pre- and post-school program.

Advantages

  • Brighton School offers complementary elements that create a rich educational experience - after school sports, arts, music, science, technology, parenting, outreach, annual concerts, music evenings, picnics are organized.
  • Profile of the typical Brighton student: child does best in a small group, has an uneven academic profile, or has difficulty with attention, anxiety, memory, speech, motivation, or social skills.
  • Students are assessed and assigned to small study groups of six or fewer students to focus on achieving success in core subjects. Students are taught by caring, qualified, experienced Special Ed teachers who work as a team to support students in integrating their learning across subjects.
  • Technology enhances and supports student learning with a Chromebook for elementary and middle school students. All students have email accounts with access to Google Classroom so students can complete and submit assignments online. Reading and Writing Assistive Technology helps students who need help with spelling or speech-to-text functionality.
  • Children with learning disabilities need help to bridge the gap between where they are and where they need to be. Brighton School is adapting content and instructional approaches to fill learning gaps for students.
