Aldro School was founded in 1898, moved to Shackleford from Eastbourne in 1940, where it remains to this day. it is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of Surrey, located in a calm, quiet place. The school regards as its priorities high standards of supervision, guardianship, and also education of the each pupil. Aldro School is famous for its strong academic tradition, the breadth of curricula offered to boys. This allows all students to progress, to prepare for the subsequent entry into high school, to learn artistic, creative, sporting experience, important elements of personal and social development.

The Aldro curriculum is based on the requirements of the Independent School Examination Commission (ISEB), but the learning process covers a wider range of disciplines through working with guest teachers, starting in 5th grade. Studying includes such subjects as:

  • English
  • English literature
  • Maths
  • Natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology)
  • Humanitarian sciences
  • Sport
  • Art.

Students for whom English is a non-native language are provided with individual EAL (English as an Additional Language) packages, which are designed to accelerate fluency in English, to gain access to the curriculum offered by Aldro in preparation for entering the selected high school students, in full. The cost of EAL packages is determined at the student enrollment stage.

A significant role is taken in the process of learning objects of the creative, sports cycles.

  • Design technology is the main subject for all students in Aldro. A structured course on this subject begins with the 3rd grade, continues until the 8th.
  • Fine art is studied throughout the study: in grades 3-5, lessons of painting take 70 minutes every week, at 6-8 - 1 hour 45 minutes weekly for half the trimester. The second half of the trimester is devoted to design technology.
  • Aldro's drama is studied weekly from grade 3 to grade 8. Classes are aimed at the development of language, communication skills, skills of independent work, positive group interaction, negotiation. The main purpose of drama classes is to promote the creative self-expression of boys.
  • Aldro has a long-standing musical tradition that is based on the high standards of individual music lessons, extracurricular group music lessons.
  • Sport plays an important role in the educational process: sports activities allow students to improve their skills, to develop an understanding of the values that are the basis of team sports. Aldro is one of the best preparatory schools for sporting success in Surrey.

 

Accommodation, meals, prices

Of the 200 students at Aldro School, 60 are regular boarders, some of the boys stay for a few nights. Permanent residence has always been one of the strengths of the school, provided a family atmosphere, the ability to organize leisure, supplement the educational program. For the same reason, graduates of the school can easily adapt to life on a full board basis in other schools.

Aldro is proud of the stable, secure environment that the boarding school provides. For different age groups there are various living conditions, leisure activities. Family friendly atmosphere makes life of boarders enjoyable.

The second half of the day, weekends are devoted to various activities for boys, conducted by master students, teachers:

Activities Aldro Private School

Aldro students visit the gallery or museum at least once during the period of study. They study history, art at Alton, Winchester, Tilford’s Rural Life Center. Small groups visit the Watts Gallery (Compton), the chapel of Mortuary. Grade 8 students have the opportunity to make a continental art tour by visiting Prague, Holland, Rome. These tours provide students with ample opportunities for drawing, photographing, visiting famous galleries and museums.

Aldro holds an annual competition of young musicians by category: singing, sacred music, playing on stringed, wind instruments, piano, guitar, percussion. The school holds a Spring and Summer Concert with a brass band, blues groupitar group, string quartet, chapel choir, jazz band. A number of informal concerts are held throughout the school year.

The institution is proud of a strong choral tradition: the church choir adds an additional spiritual dimension to music education.

The Grimston Cup is held annually - a cross-country competition. Participants of the race are chosen among the rest according to the results of trial competitions.

A number of sports sections operate on a permanent basis:

On weekends, boarders are offered a large selection of excursions, activities, including - in Chessington World of Adventures, The Goodwood Revival, Wildwood, ice skating in Winchester, a cruise on a riverboat, a trip to Southampton, a tour of the Harry Potter universe, an evening on Southsea Beach with a dip in the sea, familiarity with the traditional English street food - fish and chips.

They demonstrate academic success, achievements in sports, music, art, drama. A large number of students subsequently occupy positions of responsibility. Pupils demonstrate consistently high results for admission, scholarships. To achieve these indicators, management constantly monitors the needs of high schools, assesses how they can be best met through the curriculum. According to the results of the Common Entrance-2018, all the boys moved to their chosen high schools, receiving the results of A *, A, B.

Facilities and equipment at Aldro Private School

On the school territory there are historical buildings that are convenient for conducting classes, comfortable residences for students, equipped with all necessary sports facilities, are located.

The spacious, modern library offers young people a cozy, comfortable study area, a place where you can be alone with a good book. The library occupies an old school building, contains more than 6000 items: books, magazines, audio books, DVDs. The computer zone, printers, tablets facilitate individual, group work.

The school has its own art center, where classes are held on art, design technology. There are specially equipped workshops with an integrated warehouse of materials. The zone is equipped with computers, smart board, TV.

The War Memorial Chapel is the place where the Aldro community gathers for daily worship, providing the school with a place for meetings and gatherings.

Admission dates and extra charges

  • Registration is a non-refundable fee.
  • Deposit - in the amount of the full cost of education for foreign students. This amount will be refunded upon completion of studying, minus any overdue payments.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Aldro is a selective school that attaches great importance to its reputation and the ability of future students to make a positive contribution to the life of the school. The selection of students ensures the creation of an optimal environment for balanced learning. It includes academic entrance examinations to make sure that applicants receive the necessary level of knowledge, support and can enroll in prestigious schools for further education.

Stages of admission:

  • Registration is until October of the year preceding the desired year of admission. Registration form is included in the prospectus. The enrollment age is 7 years (grade 3), 11 years (grade 7). It is possible to enter at another age, subject to availability.
  • Online assessment in major subjects (spelling, writing, mathematics) - for students of grades 3-4. Online tests in English, mathematics - for students in grades 6-8
  • Current progress report
  • Informal interview with teachers or other staff.

Scholarships Aldro Private School

Aldro's leadership seeks to provide broad access to school, offering parents of eligible students who demonstrate good academic results, financial support and checking the need for help with paying school fees. A discount of up to 100% of the tuition fee is provided depending on the financial circumstances of the applicants. The need for scholarships is confirmed every year, may vary in the direction of increase or decrease.

When attending school by three students from the same family, a 20% discount is given to a younger student.

At the discretion of the director, remuneration of up to 15% can be awarded.
