Quick overview: While the IBDP curriculum is at the core of the academic life of every UWC school and college, UWC education goes beyond the requirements set by the IB program. Because every UWC school and college has a different student body and staff representing a wide variety of national, socio-economic, cultural, linguistic, political, educational circles, UWC recognizes that the curriculum must allow for as many interpretations and perceptions as there are students in the program. The IBDP official curriculum is complemented by classes on global issues, other activities that promote critical thinking, courageous engagement with the challenges facing the world today.

IB students choose a course in each of the following six subject areas:

  • Studies in Language and Literature;
  • Language learning;
  • People and societies;
  • Science;
  • Mathematics;
  • Arts (instead of an arts course, students can choose to study another science, society, or a language course).

Students usually study three subjects at the standard level and three subjects at a more advanced level, in which they must demonstrate a greater amount of knowledge, understanding and skills. What specific subjects are offered at different UWC schools and colleges depends on their geographic location and directions.

Admission dates and extra charges

Applications are accepted from November 15 to April 15.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Applicants are encouraged to apply during grade 11.

International students must be at least 16 years old by September 1 of the year they will be admitted to UWC. Most schoolchildren start their studies at the age of 17.

Each section of the application must be completed.

Applications will be carefully reviewed by admissions offices to determine eligibility for UWC requirements. From an initial pool of candidates, a short list of candidates is selected for face-to-face interviews with regional selection teams. Applicants who continue the process after the interview will be asked to state their school preferences + they will undergo a financial assessment to determine how much they would be wise to contribute to the cost of UWC.

Then the applicant receives a notification, the registration and admission process begins.

Visa requirements and procedures for obtaining a study permit differ from country to country, so this part of the process is different for each UWC.

It can take up to 3 months to apply to study outside Canada, so it is important to follow the instructions provided by the school. It is often required to visit the nearest embassy or consulate of the country in which you will be visiting UWC, to sign some documents by a lawyer or notary.

National Committees strive to get to know each student, carefully prepare them for school or college, so that they are ready to make the most of their UWC experience.

At this stage, the NCC matches incoming students with current or recent Canadian students at the school they will be attending.

Scholarships UWC College Canada
